Doing the "Dirty Deid"

Hey guys, i'm here making sand castles and having rock wars and getting bored of it. So I decided to do something more productive on my deployment and research on what kind of money i'll be putting into my truck. I have a 2014 Tacoma SR5 DCSB V6 4x4 S/T, it's my world. I had a thread recentley debating on what kind of tires I was wanting to throw on it. I'm backing up though and debating on suspension now, i'm not wanting anything drastic and money isn't to much of an issue. So what kind of suspension can you all recommend? I feel comfortable with a 3" lift, something to fit a 285/75 r16. I love the wide wheel base of the pre runners but I don't think i'll be using a long travel kit to the full extent being stationed in South Carolina. So input please. What brands do you recommend, i'm wanting something reliable that I won't ever have to or want to sell back to upgrade from. I want this done right and if I feel comfortable with the purchase i'll pull the trigger if my lump sum of money following this deployment allows me to do so.

What do you plan on using your truck for? The King's are much better than the Bilsteins, but the Bilsteins aren't a bad setup either. Keep in mind though that the King kit doesn't have a new leaf pack or AAL so you won't get any lift in the rear. The Bilstein kit has an AAL, but no new UCAs for a 3" lift. I say if you have the money, go for the King's. You won't need to upgrade them unless you want to change the springs. They're also rebuildable, and revalvable for wahtever you want. Buy once, cry once right?

 

Haha indeed, I figure i'll slowly build onto the truck as long as I do it right. I go mudding but in South Carolina it's more like clay, i'm wanting to start hitting up the beachs. It's a hard choice though either top of the line, or settle for bilsteins which don't get me wrong i've heard nothing but positive comments. That might be my best bet, i'm not racing the truck or anything.

 

My 2 cents: Go with the bilsteins and put the left over money away for something else. Take good care of the the bottom of your truck after you go in salt water/beach or it will rust your frame out bro.

 

Well your 2 cents are appreciated, i'll be sure to pressure wash the under carrage when playing at the beach. I think i'll settle for bilsteins, kings might be a waste of money for the applications i'll be using it for.

 

dudes will be drooling all over your truck with KINGS and TC uca's,you'll never get where you're going cause all the freaks will be asking you questions about your set-up...don't do it man...(but if i had the cash,i would)

 

Get Icons instead, a little bit less money than Kings with similar performance, and reportedly much better than bilsteins.

This is what I am going to order. Extended travel gets you an extra 1" of travel, and people here on TW have been saying these ride smooth as butter.

Add on the rears for another $300, gets you to $1519 for the COs and shocks, then add in LR UCAs for $395 and whatever rear setup you want.

Wheelers has no sales tax and free shipping on Icons so thats why Im choosing them.

 

So what does 1" of travel mean exactally? I'm still new to most of this.

 

It means your shock/spring will extend out 1 additional inch. If you put a standard and an extended both on floor jacks, the extended will hang down an extra inch.

In a nutshell it means your suspension will allow your tire to make contact with the ground in places where it otherwise wouldnt.

 

Ah, simple enough. Good break down, so you're buying it for your truck? It seems like Icon is another top tier brand when it comes to suspension as well.

 

Yeah, I have been on here the last 2 weeks reading up and researching. I decided to pay a little more and get a top quality ride for both on and offroad performance. There doesnt seem to be anything wrong with OME/Toytec, but for me I am choosing to go up one level from that. It seems after OME/Toytec you get to Icon/king/fox/camburg and a few others.

Yes....our options of off roading are very limited here. Sandy mud or red clay mud. I think the Kings would be overkill for what we play in around here.

 

You're from Alaska and you did TCN in the Deid? Did you impress all of your fellow eskimo friends with the nice tan you had gotten? How did you like it?

 

Agreed, my biggest fear though is getting orders to some where i'll regret not getting the top of the line suspension. I tend to do this when it comes to big purchases, I get recommended something to fit my needs but I see that thing around the corner that's a little better for a little more that I might need one day. That's why i'm needing help from you all in pulling my head out of my ass.

 

Tcn was a shitshow. At work by 0400 just to sit and wait till 0900 for our Tcns to get there, they work till 1700-1900. We sit. We stare at them. That's it. For 5 months lol. Supervision F'd us the entire time.
But yeah good to be home, and yeah tan as hell.
