My dad had a STi (turbo, obviously) and my best friend from high school had an older S/C'd Taco. I'm not really bringing much to the table here, but both were awesome. The Taco was so impressive... loved it with the S/C :D

Listen Hear, with a superchargr it taks power to make power!

turbo's are free power ran off pressure yr trucks just gets rid of, depending on turbo size you can have top end or bottom end performance, a smaller turbo on a 4cyl, like t3/t4 50 trim or 56 trim would give you atleast 8lbs of boost with just a fmu upgrade now a 50 trim is good for about 350 HP thats not bad for a lil turbo think of a 60 trim around 500hp. right as you sterp on the pedal! think of how easy you could climp with quick pwer or how you could take off on a lil subiee with quick boost. thats free power around 100 hp:] or more. STS makes a damn good universal and bolt on kit that would probably out perform most ppl with a supercharger,,, but hey either way you cant go wrong with more power:]

when i say the turbo's are good for 350 or 500 hp... doesnt mean you get that by puttin it on it just means you can make other engine mods and yr turbo keeps makinn power,, upgrade yr fuel system you can make way more boost

This article is a bit dated, but I ran across it after re-visiting this thread.

    http://www.motortrend.com/features/performance/112_0808_new_toyota_trd_superchargers/index.html

It looks like you can have the TRD S/C installed by the dealer if anyone was hestitant to DIY. :D

Here's a review of a '08 with the TRD S/C which sort of disses on the Tacoma. http://www.pickuptrucks.com/html/2008/toyota/tacoma/roadtest/page1.html

Does anyone know if the APR Stage II kit is out yet? Anyone else take the $4K plunge and install the S/C?

The risk of sucking up water is no greater/less than it is with an aftermarket intake. If you dip the filter in water, it's going to suck up that water, turbo or not. If you're really worried about it, keep the filter high in the engine bay, where you aren't likely to submerge it.

Its not "Free" power. The Turbo is a restriction in the exhuast, and in many cases, creates just as much parasitic drag as a supercharger. With the onset of superchargers with by pass valves, like the TRD sc's, the supercharger is, for the most part, transparent to the engine. Also, a turbo, being cetrifugal, creates its boost from pushing a little bit of air at high velocities, which creates heat (not good for controled combustion), while a "roots type" (also known as a "Posative displacement") SC moves more volume of air at a slow speed, not creating as much heat in the ntake temp.

Well, I actually read off that link a few days ago and your comments were close to the verbage off the link. This is what happens when you make assumptions though and I should have known better. In any event, I just wish more people would have taken the plunge by now for the S/C so we can get real world feed back. I love to do it myself, but it's not easy convincing the wife it's worth it $4K espeically in today's economy of uncertainteed. :(

A turbocharging or supercharging system should always be designed with a goal in mind. To condense the systems into an argument of 'which is better?' is unfair and often like comparing apples to oranges.

Roots and screw type compressors suffer from poor volumetric efficiency and are more suitable for lower pressure ratios. However, they do not suffer from surge or choking like centrifugal compressors. Centrifugal compressor do offer good volumetric efficiencies at high pressure ratio while maintaining a better mechanical efficiency.
