    [UPDATE]

Got the part finally - a few things that is good for anyone to know who goes through this:

The oil filter side takes a Torx T60 bit and allows you to tighten the nipple down tight. I couldn't see this part since it was stuck inside my old oil filter but the new piece you can see clear that the side the oil filter screws onto has the Torx fitting.

I had to remove the battery to keep proper angle on screwing in the new nipple (i didnt want to cross thread once again by ratcheting at a weird angle).

All in all the fix for this only took 15 minutes. Its the 5 days of waiting for the part that took the longest. :)

    -----------------------------------------------

Well this is a first - i have not seen this discussed on these forums and i read 'em every day!

Went to change my oil today (Sunday) and there was resistance taking off the oil filter. Finally broke loose and removed, and low and behold, the center piping fitting that the filter screws onto came out with the filter. Seems to be seized in the filter threading, tried to remove but a few attempts with the pliers pretty much made this piece unusable and still was not able to remove.

So i will be towing my truck into the dealership tomorrow and see if they can put in a new threaded piping piece. Hopefully they do not tell me that they need to replace the oil filter fitting assembly and hopefully its a piece that is in stock!

Will update as it goes, but does anyone ever remember seeing this discussed on this forum?

news to me! you may be able to get it out using a "nipple extractor" so you don't mess up the threads any more.

being that the piece is still in the oil filter though it may be crossed and useless anyway.

heres a link to some cheapy's. but these only loosen, you can get them that go both ways just google "nipple extractor" or "internal pipe wrench"

Why not get a ride to the Toyota Dealer Parts counter and see if they have a replacement nipple before you go through the expense of towing?

This seems like a pretty easy fix.
(Don't forget to put oil back in after you put it all back together!)

Do you guys think i could simply get the part thread that in and slap on a new filter? Or is it safer to have them put it in and check to make sure the threads inside are ok as well...?

Edit- Executive just saw your post saying the same thing. Towing is no cost as i have AAA and luckily i had not dropped the drain yet so only the oil in the filter is gone. Would be nice to be able to do it that easy but if both the filter and the tube body are threaded the same way what would stop this from happening again?

Take a cab (because Public Transit sucks the big one) to the dealer and get dinner on the way. Then Loc-tite that SOB in when you get back.

The threads from the fitting appear to be okay. I would think they are fine. Look inside the hole the fitting came from with a flash light and visually see if there are any torn threads or chips. I would think you could grab a new part thread it in yourself and be good to go.

you would be able to tell if the females are bad. just check em with a flashlight and make sure there is nothing that looks like ick.

to make sure it stays in, you could clean the threads really well, and use a touch of locktite and just be carefull not to over tighten your filter in the future.

    This.

New nipple and you'll be all set.

Do you have the towing package? If not, now would be the perfect time to add an oil cooler. It's a "donut" that fits between the filter and the cup. Engine coolant is circulated through it, so you can install the part now and plumb it in when convenient.

Would i just hand tighten it in there with some loctight or what tool would i use to tighten that in the threaded hole?

Thanks btw to all for the suggestions and help.

Screw it back on and then bring to dealer for oil change. When they bring the problem to your attention you say:
    What did you do??? Lol
    Jk. This would be fraud.

I'd use another filter to install it...carefully. Maybe put a little anti-seize on the filter side.

So put a new filter onto the new piece then hand tighten in, then tighten down with the filter wrench? Seems easy...

Correct. Put Loc-tite on the engine side and anti-seize on the filter side. Oh and don't use a wrench. :)

Definitely don't want to have to replace the oil cooler as it lists for $721

Personally, I would spend the money to get an internal pipe wrench of the correct size (Sears should have it). You can use that tool to remove the nipple from the filter and then torque it back into the housing. Then you can then use the high strength thread lock (red in color)
