We’ve got a bird feeder attached to the ceiling of the carport. The bird feeder has been there for years. Birds seem to be notoriously sloppy eaters, they drop a lot of seeds to the floor of the carport. Never thought much about it until I popped the hood to check the oil a couple of days ago. I routinely check the oil myself. There was a lot of rat feces on top of the motor. I’ve had the Taco for a couple of years and this is the first time this has ever happened. There is no other food source in the carport so the bird feeder is being moved a considerable distance from the carport. We’ve had a fairly cold snap recently, colder than usual. Maybe the rats are huddling on top of the motor for warmth. Whatever the reason, I’ve heard that they like to chew on wiring but I don’t see any damage yet. I understand that sleeping on top of a motor can make a rat thirsty so I’ve placed a bowl of antifreeze in the carport to cover this possiblity. It is well out of the reach of my dogs and the neighbour’s cats.
Anyone else having a similar problem?

Not a good idea with the antifreeze... in fact it's an asshole dick move on your part.... Period.

Cats can climb anywhere they want, so I doubt your poison is safe from them.

Move your feeder out of the carport. That will keep rats, squirrels, mice, rabbits, cats and dogs from the area.

If you understand the effects of what antifreeze does to an animal.. any animal, and continue to leave the poison out, you should be arrested.

You obviously copy/pasted from somewhere else so you are probably getting a ton of answers but I'll chime in as well. Even if you ARE trolling.

Yes, I think putting the antifreeze would definitely eliminate the problem but it will also do so for other critters that can get up in there. It is VERY attractive because it smells and tastes sweet. You do know this, which is why you posted it but my question is why would you want to poison another life? What if that poisoned rat goes off and dies somewhere and your cherished birds go and pick at it? Or what if your dogs find it and play with/eat it?

I hate to be mean but if you really did do this, I hope that at least it was worth their life and they chewed the crap out of your wiring and peed so bad it contaminates everything else. And I hope it costs you a pretty penny because that won't be covered by warranty.

Oh by the way. Love your sig :)

Simple.... Remove food source...... remove rats. Same goes with spiders.

    Don't do antifreeze.

*EDIT* Actually you can use Antifreeze with spiders I don't give a shit about spiders

I don't know if they do or not either. I just know you remove their food source also they will leave. But I hate spiders so much that I really don't give a shit if you bake them in the oven.

That's seems to be universal among humans. I lived in some shitty parts of asia and the only thing they didn't eat was spiders. I did have some excellent cockroaches once, but no spiders. Odd.

Well phuket, I have to go back now to try some! That means there is nothing humans won't eat. At least in my experience.

I think the antifreeze method is fine. Assuming nothing eles can get to it. Its the same as using rat poision. Dont let the fucking hippies change how you do it.

What part? That he spelled morale wrong?

Or that moral means ethical and he should be beaten until his ethics improve?
