    Hello all
Just got a 2014 TRD with some mods for comfort and looks. Got xps wheels and leather heated seats.
After about 1200 miles of mostly highway driving (65-80mph) the mpg is a paltry 14.5-15.0 at best.
Added tonneau cover and K&N filter hoping for maybe 1mpg improvement. Nada.
I had just traded my 2006 silverado 2500HD diesel with a nice build which actually got 16mpg. Had to unload cuz wouldnt fit in garage and the ms. couldnt drive in the city.
So, here I am with a great feeling truck, that is slow to accelerate and worse with gas mpg (although I save not buying diesel).
When I tuned my chevy diesel, it actually changed mix and tranny so I got more power with better mileage.
Is there anything that can be done to a v6 taco that could get me some juice without dropping mpg into the low teens?
I hear so many good things about this truck and it was reported to get 21-25mpg. But unless I drive like grandma..... well, you know.

Its a new truck it will get crappy mileage until the engine is broken in. Also what sized tires do you have? Those can affect mpg a lot.

    Welcome to TW.

No, there isn't anything simple like what can be done on Ford, Chevy and so on.

Driving slow is typically how all vehicles get their ratings.

Truck is still breaking in. My 2014 has 1300 miles and I get about 16-17 mpg. Although my 33s go on today so I'm sure that will change

It sucks, but, yes, if you want uber good mileage, grandma has to be in da house...get a Scangauge or Ultraguage, they help with Instant MPG display, then you can see how you use your gas...

So I'm not one to believe in the break-in thoery. My 2014's very first tank was about 15.5. Every tank full since has been right around 18. 90% of my driving is right around 70mph for a 50 mile commute. Now don't get me wrong I'm not complaining just stating that after the first tank I wouldn't expect it to get any better. None of my vehicles ever have. Now on a side note I had an 2005 and it never got better than 15...

There are a lot of threads on MPG for these trucks. There is absolutely no mods that can be done to these trucks to increase the MPG except driving them at or under 2000 RPM except adding a supercharger. Since you do not want to slow down there is only one thing that can be done and that is a supercharger. You might gain 2 to 4 MPG depending how you treat it, but you also have to run premium gas.

You should spray some plastic dip into a paper bag and suck it down. It'll help.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Take it back to the dealer. I hear you crying out for a supercharger.[IMG].

What the fuck were you smoking when you heard these reports? 4x4 getting 21-25. LMAO, someone doesn understand simple arithmetic. First question what tire type and size are you running? Auto or manual? What are your current miles on the taco?

Theoretically he should gain, bu this led foot will lead to an even further decrease

    Things I need to tow.
My mileage didn't change any from the first tank either. But, there's a BIG difference between the cruising mileage from 60mph and 70mph. At 60-65 I can get 18-19mpg. Over 70-75 it drops to 15-16. I have a several mile stretch on surface streets during my commute where I average 40-50mph without stopping and I can get 22 or better at that speed. I don't think the 5-speed automatic is to blame as 70mph is only a hair over 2K rpm. It just takes more fuel to push a brick through the air at high speed. Fortunately, I don't have to use my truck as my daily commuter. And, I don't buy that all the new generation of Ford's and Ram's that claim highway mileage in the mid-20's are getting that at 70-75mph. My truck is stock, unlifted and stock tired.

My 2010 tundra 5.7 380 hp double cab got 19 mpg right off the showroom floor and that's avg mpg but I drive it like grandma would and coast when I can. Try it I bet you will be surprised how much more mpg you get. Good luck and welcome

Lots of sites report decent mileage. Not everyone jumps onto Tacoma World, or even know it exists, or fuelly.com when they go to buy a new truck. An example, fueleconomy.gov shows 16/21/18 city, highway, combined for 2014 V6 auto 4x4. Toyota.com lists at 19/24 - some people believe EPA numbers to be honest. Other sites show 17/19. Either way all the estimates are WAAAAAAYYYY higher than the 13.2 mpg that I'm getting. That's 70/30 highway. So yes, I understand where the OP is coming from.

Now, that being said, I jacked my tires up to 38 psi on the last fillup. Perhaps it's just silliness, but I believe I can feel the truck roll easier. We'll see if it makes any difference on the next fillup.

    Best tank - 18mpg
    Average tank - 16 mpg

These trucks are aweful on gas.

This is possible, less contact, you have the issue of now possibly wearing uneven though.

Yeah, I was wondering how high I could go without that being an issue. I'll keep an eye on the treadwear.
