funny noises??

Ive been hearing two unusual noises from my truck...the first coming from the front right suspension area, it sounds like a clicking...like metal on metal. its not rele loud. it only happens at higher speeds (45+)....the second is coming from the rear, its a loud clunking sound it only happens when i hit a speed bump...at any speed its like a loud clunk. at first i thought it was my bedliner but i replaiced it with line-x so thats not it.

 

im no expert but i was kind of thinking the shocks its like when i come down off of something its like its bottoming out....but not "bottoming" i got 5100s in the rear??? they are new

 

ok will do tomaro and i guess ill run it by a shop to see if the cvs are bad unless you know a way to tell....i had a local shop install the lift so if a bolt is loose in the rear ill have them look at it.

 

When i installed my lift i didn't get one of the sway bar links tight enough and it made a clicking noise in the front. However it was only heard at low speeds and when droping off a curb or something. Something you could check anyway!

 

I had just installed used Donahoe's on my front and have the same clunking noise, originally thought the coilovers need recharging. Took them out and replaced them with with my original stock setup and the clunking is still there.

Now, I am led to believe that when I tried unsuccessfully to remove the lower end of the sway bar drop link I loosened it and could not get it back tight?

Do you actually need to put a allen wrench in there to tighten it up??

Any suggestions?

I started with that, but was worried about stripping the crap out of the set screw. These Chicago winters and road salt are tough on the fasteners on any vehicle.

The nut does spin freely, so I am guessing I do need to find a way to tighten it. Might have to soak it a few days with PB and have another go at it.

Now if only I can figure out a way to remove the locking screw on the collar of my Donahoe coilovers. Same problem, wouldn't budge and stripped the hell out of it. Even drilled it out and used a bolt extractor with no success.

I have read here that the plating that Donahoe used causes some of these and the collars to seize in place. Would like to try my best to figure it out myself before investing the money in shipping and rebuild from ICON.

 

Well, I was able to soak it a few days with PB and got a 6mm allen socket on there and was able to tighten it up! That horrible clunking sound is now gone!
