Hell yes..Linda rented a Ford Edge a couple of months ago that had projectors, even with non-HIDs they looked killer.

Do those headlights change the bulb type?

I had a set for my Accord, mounted them for laughs and because for whatever terrible reason they used H3 bulbs, I had all of zero light output. I replaced them with the stock head lamps that night.

I actually find the 2012+ head lamps put out a surprising amount of light. I like HID and all (have them on my car) but I don't find myself craving projector HID compared to what I have. HID isn't particularly great in the rain.

Yes, depending on which kit you get will dictate which bulb type you end up with. Common bulb types are H1 or D2S for TRS's HID kits.

In all honesty how hard is it to do? (Bhlm and the retro) I've read the threads and the posts, numerous times in fact, but I'm concerned I would fuck it up.

Opening the headlights up is by far the hardest part. All in all, it's really not that difficult. If you can spray paint, you can do this mod. The baking the headlights in the oven is nerve racking the first time you do it but once you're into it, it's not bad. Mounting the projectors is really simple and is 100% reversible. If you're painting the bezels or the bowls, you have to leave them until the paint dries and finishes off gasing before sealing them up (I left mine overnight).

I'd suggest buying a cheap set of headlights if you're nervous about it..less pressure of time constraints..

I quit smoking in september last year. Basically i ran out one night sitting at home and didnt feel like going to the store to buy more. Decided that would be my day to quit and i havnt bought a pack since. Best thing iv done yet. 7 years worth of smoking and quit cold turkey. Just cuz i was to lazy to go buy more.

Yea I know I can physically do all that
I guess my brain is telling me it's new so I shouldn't mess it up.

This is a good call. Where would one get cheap headlights?

I'd try and make sure to get an OEM set. Aftermarket units aren't ever going to fit 100%, the reflectors won't be the same as OEM and who knows how good the plastic is in terms of durability and resistance to yellowing, etc.

Craigslist, there was a set for $50 not long ago.

I forget who I read doing this that bought a set of the Depo lights that are identical. If you have to open them up anyways the sealing isn't an issue so to say, just do it right when you close em back up.

Dumb question... Cab mount chop is not required if I have a 2 1/2" lift and move to 285/70/17s right? Just a little trimming correct? The height I am sure I am ok with. The width has me a little concerned. But with the FJ wheel BS I should be ok??

I have a 3" lift and needed to do the cab mount chop and trim out the front fender with 285/75/16 and i still rub a tad in reverse or full compression. 70 and 75 are basically less then a half inch difference. Id just go ahead and do it.
