So I'm going to need all the Tacoma experts out there to help solve this. So in my 2nd gen 07' preRunner I noticed a strange noise in my engine after off-roading. The noise only happens when I accelerate from 0 - 20 ish. At higher speeds it goes away. Upon further examination I noticed this huge gap (2 in) between my fan blade and the fan shroud on the top. The fan blade is about 1 mm from the bottom of the shroud. It's clear that this in what the noise is . I can see plastic on the blade from where it was scrapping the shroud. My first thought was that I broke a motor mount but they looked fine to me. I also took it I toyota and they said the mounts were fine. They also could not find the cause of the shroud or engine moving.

Before I take this somewhere and spend a lot to get it fixed I wanted to get some other opinions. If anyone has had this problem I would be grateful for any help!

the radiator bolts are loose or dropped out due to vibration and never being checked.

Or the engine mount has collapsed. See frame rot. Even though I think they reinforced the newer frames.

Or, the transmission mount crossmember has been bent upward from high centering, which will push the front of the engine downward.

Wouldn't that cause the radiator/fan shroud to drop down? My fan blade is striking the bottom of the shroud.

I'll have To check for this. Unfortunately it looked like the engine dropped some how so I just have to find out what caused it.

Check engine mounts on both sides of the engine and the frame they are attached to. Also the transmission cross member, as stated by landphil. If you high centered and bent it upwards it will force the front of the engine down.

The transmission mount is fine and so are the engine mounts. but I did find a fix (probably temporary). I unbolted the top 2 bolts on the radiator/shroud and pushed down as hard as I could while someone else tightened the bolts back on. Theres still the gap at the top and it's almost touching the bottom but its not scrapping anymore at least.

Is the fan supposed to be centered within the shroud? Right now I have about a 1.5in gap at the top and about a centimeter on the bottom

Did you check to see engine mounts didn't push into frame or just check rubber mounts?
