What is the single ultimate source of knowledge, reason or experience? Go....

Its a question for a philosophy paper. I know what I think the answer is since there is no real answer. Just curious as to what others think as I am encouraged to use debate to write the paper.

No, just reason or sense. Its pretty simple that way. Philosophy of religion is a book in itself. I am just writing a paper. Besides, there is very little "reason" in religious text. It is mostly the universe of sense. Except when deciphered by those who didnt write the original religious text. They normally try to appeal to the reason portion.

 

Honestly without dragging religion into the mix... I think the only real answer that comes to my mind would be oneself. It is only within the mind that experience, knowledge, and reason can even occur. It's also up to oneself to interpret these and how to use and how to classify these.

 

That is stating that my thinking is correct. Reason and sense cannot be used properly without one another. We learn everything through sense. But without reason how can we interpret these senses?

 

Instinct?

 

When I say senses I mean sense experience since that is part of experience as a whole. Instinct is a whole different matter. It is awesome that we can be born with certain programming but while we have these instincts we have to grow and use reason to understand why we have these instincts. If we never discover that then we have gained no actual knowledge.

Indeed. So I just wrote that there is no correct answer and that someone has to balance both experience and reason to gain true knowledge. Used the Allegory of the Cave to answer it.
