    Pretty much replacing the mounting legs it comes with a plate that bolts to the frame in a much better setup

    Yep, my sliders (on the way) is bolt on, but has just small "L" brackets that bolt to the frame. This one is pretty much a frame doubler plate. Cutting off the brackets and welding it on to the plate is no problem.
    So its gonna change from this:

    What have you done to your truck lately
    Looks good Iven. Maybe when everybody got there armor and some truck converted to 4x4. Make a trip up to peacock flats, maybe May or June time frame give the members get there stuff done.

    FYI, seen motorcycle cops pulling over lifted trucks tonight on the H1 west bound. Lifted Chevy wide tires and expired saftey check. lol:D

    Recon might fail you if they see it welded.

    Welding will mess with the metal properties and could cause the frame to become more brittle in some areas.

    To do it right, you'd need to match the sheet metal used for the frame with the slider and maybe heat treat the the frame to remove all the stress...

    Those aren't mine tho. Still waiting for the sliders and the frame plates :eek:
    I don't wanna weld on the frame because of recon, and also welding and drilling holes in the frame could be blamed for rust issues in the future. For the beefed sliders to actually be used as sliders, you need to drill a few more holes in the bottom rail of the frame. With the doubler plates, it might not be necessary with all the extra bolts.

    Drilling the frame for the BAMF sliders sucked btw...I'm sure the frame doubler will work just fine.

    They won't fail you for welding on the frame.

    The rest is a little excessive if you ask me. The frames are mild steel so weld away, just make sure they are welded properly.

    IMO, welding sliders to your frame is better in the long run. The Bolt-on plates on the frame will vibrate and wear through the paint allowing the frame to rust.

    One of my friends built a bumper and welded it to his friends F250 last year and recon failed him. Hey wouldn't pass it until he could prove that it was welded by a certified welder. Maybe it's different if it's not a structural component? They might just think of the sliders as a step rail and not care?

    Its still a gray area with the whole system though. It needs to be updated.

    My boss took his truck down and had to jump through some hoops and he's a certified welder with close to 30 years..

    His truck passed after a certified repair shop did some work.

    Sounds like he pissed them off. When I talked to one of the inspectors about my 4runner, he said if your certified it won't be a problem. He did say they get a lot of people that come down with attitudes and that can effect how they inspect things. They also have everything in writing at the station on what is required, but they cannot publish it because it has to be done through the DOT. I heard they think next year it will be out, but I have a hard time believing that.

    My friend has a recon'd fj40 with bumpers welded to the frame and they didn't even ask him about them. It depends on who you get and your/their attitude, which is the most f'd up part about it.

    So you can take then off off you need to repaint them haha




    I doubt welding four support brackets are gonna anneal the frame. It takes allot of heat and allot of time to reduce the structural integrity, depends on the mild steel they use

    Nope, he's all about following the requirements. He went down, they checked out his truck and told him he had to box is frame where he notched it. He asked if he could do it himself or have a shop do it.

    But yeah, the system still sucks.

    The FJ40 sounds like a nice rig.

    I'm kinda doubting that Toyota uses quality steel in their frames...but that's just me.

    That's the thing; if you're certified than it's all good. But if you did it yourself without a certification, then they may give you problems. My friend was certified for 12 years or something but it had expired, so they wouldn't pass his recon until he renewed it.
