Replacing a 2005 Tacoma Sport Edition 2WD. Been very happy with the truck and ride but do a lot of duck hunting and haul a heavy Mud Boat to ungodly areas in all weather- many of which I shouldn't have gotten out of with the 2WD. The 2005 seems to have worn the rear springs due to trailering and it was time to upgrade. Basically will have a lot of highway time till we get to the spot and then into the nasty- mostly mud.

Was looking for a 2014 Tacoma 4x4 Off-Road and can't find the model in in the color I wanted (will have to wait over 6 weeks). Dealer does have one Tacoma in the right color with a Limited, 4x4, and Tow Package- basically the truck I want with the options I wanted but doesn't have the 'Off-Road tuned Suspension' and has those Limited 18' rims (which I don't care for).

Lurked on here a while before registering and was looking at the TRD site at the different suspension kits.

What is different between the Limited and OR suspensions? I saw a thread comparing OR and Sport on here but haven't found this comparison.

Would y'all recommend the 4x4 'Off-Road Tuned Suspension' be upgraded anyway for the trailering I do? If so, could I just get the Limited package truck and start modding the suspension from there?

Looking for recommendations for a good ride on the Highway and able to handle badly rutted back roads and some mud flats. Apologize in advance if these are questions that have been asked too many times.

The stock rear suspension wont be very good for that kind of trailering. You will want to add-a-leaf or get a new leaf pack, like ome Dakars.

Off road tuned wont be worth it, do an add a leaf if not replace the whole pack. I wouldn't wait 6 weeks just for off road suspension package, whats the cost difference?

I'd lift it and put a set of Dakars in the back. I just hauled a duck boat to Arkansas and back and you can't even tell the weights back there looking at it. I've hauled heavy bass boats with them too and same outcome. I just bought the SR5 cause I knew I was replacing the suspension in 2 months when I bought it.

    Getting there...
TRD OR suspension was meh in my opinion. Sounds like you'd be happy with an OME lift.

Whats the heaviest boats you hauled without problems? Is it all flat or up some grades as well?

@OP, the main benefits of the OR is that you get a rear locker and ATRAC.

.125 16' duck boat with mud motor fully loaded with hunting gear plus the truck bed loaded. 1987 Ranger bass boat with a 150 on the back and hauled two 160 qt coolers loaded fully. Also had gear for 5 guys in the bed for a 3 day trip. I drive both flat and mountains without problems. Anywhere from 4-9 hour trips.

Since its not the 'truck I want' I will use the lack of OR as a negotiating point.

The Limited Edition truck that I'm considering seems to be kind of a hybrid- has several options that are part of other packages. Confirming, but I think this truck already has the A-TRAC, Rear Locking Diff, HAC, and DAC. Comparing the two data sheets, looked like the 'Tuned OR suspension' was the difference between the 4x4 OR model I was looking at.

My boat is 18' 0.125 with Mud Motor and we load it up. My dog with the butt you can see from space warrants a suspension upgrade by himself.

Saw this for sale the Market Place.

2014 off road package suspension which are the Blisten 4600 front shocks with coil spring and rear Blisten struts.

If I installed AAL or Dakars in back, and put on these springs/struts what kind of ride should I expect?

Same guy selling the springs is selling his 16" wheels and tires off his OR. Could possibly get it all (OR wheels, BF G tires, springs, shocks w/ < 2K miles).

Well if you use dakars without a front lift you will be really ass up. Id advise you to take a look at OME/toytec and then icon/king for the next tier up.

If I were you dude I would get the package you want I mean the off road isn't just suspension it includes: better seats, rear locking diff, atrac, hill ascent control, hill descent control.
