That's how it works here. I shoot on BLM or NFS land almost every weekend. Lots of spots to get out past 1,000 yards. Plus, I would always rather shoot from field positions than from a bench. Also, I have a few spots that I practice shooting low light defensive handgun at night. Lots of fun!

that's amazing. in MD you cant even shoot anything over handgun calibers without joining a club, there is bubcus for places to shoot here, i would die to have a huge open expanse like that... one more reason to move the f outta here :(

I walk out my front door to go shooting. Where I live at is a legal spot to shoot on your own property. There is no 1000 yard range though. The longest spot I have to safely shoot here probably gets to about 80 yards, but it isn't ideal. What I have is better for pistols and shotguns. It is safe enough for rifles, but not a challenge so much.

as long as you know what your target is and what's behind it. We walk up and set up the steel for each of our targets and make sure they are up against a good solid backstop, usually the side of a mountain lol, and walk around some more to make sure we're not shooting past or over anyone who could be camping there, and then we just go trigger happy all day. I've yet to have anyone come up to where we shoot in the past year. You just have to find a secret spot and not tell anyone haha.
