I did a 3.4 engine swap in my old 1994 toyota Daily Driver. It was easy to do. The wiring was pretty easy as long as you have someone who knows what they are doing. Like Jeff said good bang for your buck. The truck was awesome!
Im doing a 4.0 swap later this year in the race truck. I have done my research. Its super complicated and 3X more $$ compared to the 3.4 swap

How prone to failure are the thin wheel spacers? I want to fit 15" steel rims and one of those 5mm spacers like the pic below may make all the difference.

Yeah I was at Jeremy's house a few weeks ago. The 4.0 swap cost him close to $10,000. Thats including everything from buying motor, tranny, ECU, ignition components needed for wiring, motor mounts, custom headers, the complicated electrical work, new driveshafts, custom fab to fit it, etc... But way worth it

Jesus christ!! How is that well worth it? Is it class specific for his application?

Hell yeah. I shot that guy an email with the 3.4 so we'll see. Did you swap the trans as well? Or run an adapter plate? I'm looking forward to the huge jump in power, although I'm having fun smashing the 22re.
Also, what were the main things you had to do? Just chop stock mounts, build mounts for the engine and trans, and possibly a new trans cross-member? then placing all the other components?

I have .5" spacers on mine (which I will ditch eventually) and haven't had a problem. I've had them for a least a year, my truck is 6k loaded, and beat the thing to hell. If you're worried just upgrade your wheel studs

Jeremy built his truck to win races, it costs money to go that fast. I suspect it will probably pay off for him the near future as I expect his truck to be very fast.

That said, in the past I have talked to some people who's opinions I value very highly and both said that the 4.0 swap was the biggest PITA and in some ways they wished they had stuck to the old supercharged 3.4. Both have race trucks so the swap had a purpose, just like it does for Jeremy.

Based on their input and experience I personally would run the 3.4L with a supercharger all day long if didn't intend to race. If I had to have a motor swap, I might as well shoot the wad and drop in an LS. I would imagine it's not much more cost or headache than a 4.0 and it sounds cooler too!

Our Toyota race engine experience. We started with a 3.0 with head porting, cams, headers, 0 miles stock factory lower end. That thing hauled ass, it pulled 105 mph in our 7s truck. We built a new truck with the TC gen III kit and linked, kept the 3.0, still hauled ass and would reach 100 mph easily. But we were getting beat corner to corner. So we upgraded to a 3.4 with cams, head porting and stock lower end. Better corner to corner and would still pull 100. We were getting beat by the v8's in 1400/50 so we went with a low miles 4.0. All stock including ecu, just headers and the 02 bypass. It feels better corner to corner but the top end will not get over 85. We got passed by our old 3.4 once on a straight. Point is I would take back that 3.4 any day or even the 3.0 because it was fast. If we were to do it all over again we would go with 8 cylinders, not sure Toyota or LS.
