So a new recall has been put out for the 12 and 13 year Tacomas:

    http://money.cnn.com/2014/02/12/autos/toyota-prius-recall/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Interesting, it says the traction control, ABS could be disabled due to software problem. Many people have modded their Tacoma to do just that - like myself, ive done the 4x4 locker mod to disable the ABS system when needed.

Seems to be a worse problem for the hybrid cars though, those ones can suddenly stop!

As many software updates and corrections as there are nowadays, you would think they would just supply you with a cord to plug into your computer or laptop and do the download from their site.

Article mentions the 2012 and 2013 Tacoma. Guess by that, anyone before or after is ok!

You could always register at toyotaowners.com, usually you can find answers there too and you can always call them and you can call your service guy at your dealership.

They also mentioned you will get a letter in the mail because the recalls are VIN specific.

Took me 5 minutes, the lady checked my account, ran my VIN and said my VIN was not in the recall. :D

GL fellow '12 and '13 model Tacoma owners

Dodged the valve recall on my car and now this, but it's better then finding out when I'm stuck in the middle of the road.

    Thanks for the post

Seems like the article stated that it wouldn't stop a Tacoma dead in its tracks rather just turn off ABS, traction, etc. but breaks still work, still drivable. Think the hybrids are different and for those the whole car could come to a stop (guessing a lot more electronics involved in those cars.)

You can enter your VIN directly into the Toyota web site without registering, to find out if you are affected. I just ran my 2013's VIN and nothing came back, but this was just announced the other day so I will be checking again in a month or so just to be safe:

Weird...just last week (have had my truck over a year), the ABS, traction control, and VSC lights all turned on and I thought it was weird. Turned the truck off, then back on and they disappeared. Sounds like I'll be part of the recall and if I'm not, I'll tell them that happened so I should be part of it.

Thanks, it sounds like they have the VINs for this recall loaded into their site then. My 13' OR must not be affected, which is odd because I custom ordered an early 13 before they were even at the dealerships.

Dealer just replaced the ABS actuator on my 2013 as the ABS, Traction control lights would come on. No light when I had it at the dealer, they were not able to duplicate the problem but they did get the error code from the computer. Even had the lights come on cruising at freeway speeds.
Won't be a surprise if mine is included in the recall.
