I've been thinking of picking up a Go Pro Camera before our trip to CO next month and I was hoping to get some input from you guys out there on the best model to pick up.

This is the model I'm looking at. A while back I think they had some firmware issues but judging by the reviews those seemed to have been addressed or this is a completely new camera.

Anyway basically the camera will be used for mounting to different parts of the truck while off road in CO. (Windshield, Fenders, etc....) and I planned on picking this up for that. Note the trails that I will be running will not be hard core trails. Just scenic drives up muddy / snowy trails.

After the trip it will most likely stay on the windshield as a recorder in case of a accident or something similar. Meaning it will stay on most of the time I'm driving the truck and erased each night.

Any suggestions / comments would be appreciated!

The Hero 3 line is great.

IF you don't use it all that much and don't want all the features and stuff just get the White Edition and if you find yourself needing something you can pick and choose to upgrade.

Also just make sure you update the firmware over the internet when you buy it and you should be ready to rock n roll.

I have one and I love it. No issues.

I've got the Hero 3 black and it works fine, I'm happy with it. I don't think you will be that impressed with it as a window cam if you drive a lot due to battery life. There's also the chance of someone feeling like they need it more than you do.

Cool man thanks. I would really like to get some different shots that are not common then edit them all together for a trail video of the vacation.

I have both the hero 3 black and + version, I actually prefer the 3, even with the reduced battery time.

My drives are generally less than 30 mins at a time and it would be on the upper part of the windshield and removed when I was away. How long does the battery life last. I notice on Amazon it says 30% longer but that doesn't tell me much.

My vote would be for the silver edition. I just ordered myself one off of Amazon for one hell of a price, and they still have them for $229 shipped. It isn't the + version, but it's still a Hero 3 and I have yet to see a price better than that.

Made a bunch of stuff black.
I have the Hero 3 Black and I love it.

If you had the right mount, you get just leave it plugged in via usb while you're driving. Then the battery life shouldn't be an issue.

I also have the GoPro suction cup and that thing is solid.

It depends on what format you're recording in too as to battery life. The 3+ is also 30% smaller. lol Temperature also affects battery life. I've never completely drained mine. Most of my recording has been in 10-20 minute intervals.

Yeah... I just got through looking at that. That looks like the mount to go with.

I found a non go pro battery maker/vendor that has better quality batteries. The hero3 seems to be more stable under shock then the 3 +.

So pulled the plug and bought the GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition with the Suction Mount.

Been pretty happy with it so far. I can start to see the unlimited potential of this camera.

One of the places I'll mount it for trails.

GoPro App pretty much makes the WiFi remote useless unless you don't want your phone to get wet.

*EDIT* Hit the setting wheel at the bottom to put it in 1080P

All in all I'm very happy with the purchase and all the different mounting options I have. I'll update as I go along.
