There is a lot of great advice coming from this. I just need to sit down and figure out what is best for me and the wifey. And right it down, I tend to get a little hot headed when I get mad and lose sight of the end goal. If I right it down, I'll just let the service manager go over it himself.

And BTW it was a specialist. I was thinking about getting my TPMS reprogrammed but at a cost of $165 I decided to skip. He told me he was a specialist, and as of yet, was the only person at the dealership that has expressed any amount of concern.

Well todays Wednesday. I plan on writing up what I want and going to see the service manager personally. I'll have an update later on tonight.

Not to drag this on but like Dave just stated, I would definitely go over the service managers head and talk to the GM or Owner. The service manager could be trying to hide this from his bosses as this looks bad on his behalf. You will yield much better results going above the service department. Aloha! :)

It looks like that, that's the theme of Toyota dealers,"Take what you get,and like it MR/MRS customer",even the same if you work for the company.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
If I'm not mistaken.. anytime there is damage to the insured vehicle you must notify your insurance company...or you can be dropped from the policy.

Let your Insurance Co. handle it.

Make sure this guy doesn't work on your truck. [IMG]

Not suggesting that someone should DIE, but realistically involving a lawyer when none is needed is costly, and unnecessary. Involving the insurance company gets the OP free of having to deal with his own lawyer. The insurance company has THEIR lawyer. Let them handle it.

You do not have to have an accident report to file a damage claim. If you drive your own car into the garage door, you don't have to call the police and get a report filed.

While I accept your concern, I promise you the service manager is NOT going to try and hide this and risk losing his job over it. That would just be stupid on his part. When you figure the tech, the service manager, the service writer, and a couple of others probably know about this incident, then you KNOW the GM and owner will find out. There is no risk to the service manager for calling the incident to their attention. If anyone would be at fault it would be the tech, not the service manager. So why try and hide anything at all?

My Prius is the best car I've ever owned from a reliability stand point. Never been to the shop for anything but routine service and of course the sticky gas peddle thing , going on 180K now.

The big insurance companies don't need police reports for accidents. Not sure which insurance company your sister has but with Allstate, State Farm, geico, or farmers you do not need a police report in order to file an accident claim. Atleast here in Texas. Maybe it differs from state to state?

You, the dealership and other motorists are incredibly luckily that when your wheel came off it didn't go into another car.

I am glad to hear your family is safe and sound.

Thanks Moe, I deleted my post so that I don't take away from the issue that the OP has. I'm just hoping that his issue is resolved and glad that he and his family are safe. Aloha! :)

Agreed. Try to negotiate an extended Toyota warranty to protect you in the future.

Wow, sorry to hear this happened. Hopefully the dealership does the right thing and everything works out the way it needs to. I'll be following this thread for sure.

Had this happen to me when I had the tires rotated on an eclipse I owned years ago. The wheel didn't completely come off but the car started shaking like crazy on the freeway and I pulled over immediatly. Found a rear wheel cocked funny in the fender well and I knew immediatly what happened. Called the dealership and they came right out, towed it, and went to work. A new wheel, studs, and some minor fender well work and I was back on the road. I will say they treated me right, got free oil changes out of the ordeal and a substantial discount on a service that was coming due. OP, glad to hear you and the wife were not hurt because of a careless mistake.

Im one that's normally against getting attorney and suing, but this is a example of something that just should happen. Period.

I assume the body and etc has some damage, personally id ask for KBB+taxes dealer fess and etc so you can purchase a replacement truck of equal value .
