My understanding is the airbag sensors are on the frame rail so crumpling the frame will set them off still. That being said the airbag computer uses more then just impact to determine application. Deceleration, braking, and truck pitch are all factored in to the computer. To my knowledge ARB is the ONLY bumper that is airbag compliant.

IMHO no matter the bumper if the accident is bad enough the Airbag should still deploy. But it is just an opinion.

My understanding is that the airbags are activated by inertia and the bumper has no effect.

How much is the powder coating? Are you sure you want to powder coat it?

Edit: my response was not intended as a rebuttal to Eric's. Posted while I was typing.

What you say is correct but I'm
Sure the bumper changes things a little with the sturdyness. But the computers in the new vehicles are smart enough they know way before you do what kind of impact is about to happen.

Haha. All good. We are thinking the same things.

And I will preach Powder Coating one last time. It is the best base coat ever. Once you get a good PC on rattle can touch ups are a breeze.

Paging Noah... he knows what I am talking about.

Don't know for sure but I am guessing $200-$300 so I think the BF would be more like $400-500 more than this one after shipping and coating it. And since I have a family with little ones I can't ignore the airbag feature (even though the info isn't conclusive). I really like billy but since money for this is tight I think I will go for the arb. He will still get my business for the rear though ;)

Yeah... probably a good idea to get a nice base layer down.

I want to strip my bumper eventually and lay down some of that POR-15 stuff.
I have read from the guys in Canada that it works wonders in keeping rust away and protecting the bumper.

I would definitely go for the deal on the ARB. Might as well save money and still have a badass bumper.

Even though your truck might look like a grandpa's :D

Yeah but you have to brush that shit on. I don't see how to get a smooth finish.

What have you had powder coated on your truck?

I had my front and rear bumper PC'd and they are both showing rust spots. Mainly the back wrap around. I've knocked the steel on enough rocks I don't think the powder coating can work as a good base coat.

Although my front bumper cost $150 and the back was $100, so I'd say it was still worth it

My fear with powder coating was that a touch up would always look like a touch up, that you wouldn't be able to match the powder coating perfectly.

I haven't yet regretted my choice to go with flat black rustoleum. I bought a $10 can and rolled it on wherever I could. Then I used a spray can to hit the spots the roller missed. I couldn't tell any difference between where I rolled and where I sprayed. Touch ups take me 3.7 seconds with the spray can and I can't tell where I've touched up either.

In fairness, I didn't try the powder coating and I may be wrong about touching it up.

That might be the problem. A good PC for a plate bumper will be over $200. It will include a base PC and a PC clear coat.

That being said scratches and abrasions will need rattle can touch up. The rattle can just seems to last longer on a PC base IMO.

When hitting rocks I don't think there is a coating available that will stay on and avoid chipping off. Maybe there is, but I have never heard of anything.
Oh and I am almost as old as gramps so I think I can pull of the old guy look with my truck. Maybe it will keep all those ladies from chasin me around all the time.

    Usually.....

It can take up to 5.2 seconds if I have to grab a piece of cardboard to prevent overspray.

That shit is funny. My PC guys sends me home with PC matched rattle can for my touch up needs. But on my ARB that was PCed from ARB... every couple of years I give the entire thing a touch up with some Rustoleum Satin finish. I need to do it this spring.
