Yes, a doe will huff at you, stomp her hooves, and try to lead you away from her fawns. I've experienced that.
Bears will huff and chomp with their mouth/teeth as well, letting you know that they are not happy with your presence. I hear cougars are known to make blood curdling hi pitched scream sounds as well. Our local conservation officer mentioned one technique to let an animal know you are not to be messed with is baring your teeth. That's a language that cougars, dogs, bears etc. all use.

Yep , when I was a kid a cougar came right up the the screen door at our house one night , my dad heard some noise and went to see what was up and he came about 10' from the cat just on the other side of the screen door and it let out with that high pitched scream / howl , my dad said every hair on his body stood on end

 

simple determination if a bear is being predatory is if it is casually keeping its distance, seems interested in you, but is following you. It will stop when you take notice of it but then continue to follow along when you move. Not good.... its interested in you all right..sizing up how much of a fight you have in you. Time to arm that bear spray, sharp stick ready, and turn and bear your teeth at it. Let it know its going to be in for a fight.
