2009 taco...

so ive got a friend who knows a high up guy at toyota and the word is that they are going to be making the 2009 or 2010 tacomas with a V8 and the Tundras are going to be diesil..anyone else hear this?

 

id say forget throwing a diesel in the tundra, id like a 4.0L diesel in my taco! that would be nice...

I really want a diesel Tacoma but until they start producing more diesel in this country, no way. Approximately 25% of each barrel of oil is refined into diesel. Europe, 50%.

 

they eventually put a V8 in a Taco but i dont think it will be in the next year or so. a V8 taco would be a waste, give us a big diesel!

 

Why a big diesel in a Tacoma, I think Toyotas nice 2.8 diesel from the hilux would be plenty of power, and good fuel economy. If they came out with a diesel tacoma I would probably sell my gaser and buy one instantly.

 

With gas prices getting out of control I dont see Toyota putting a V-8 in a taco anytime soon. I camplain my new truck is slow but I do like getting 18 mpg vs 15mpg in my old X-Runner.

Why would they put a V8 in a Taco? It would cut down on the Tundras sales, which already small enough as it is. Toyota doesn't need to put a V8 in the Tacoma to make it sell, and they definitely aren't interested in taking away from the Tundras market. They are practically giving the Tundra away right now.

 

good point. the only reason i think they may do it in the future is because they did it to the 4runner, which i think is stupid. even though they have the sequoia (sp) with a V8 they still put one in the 4runner. i think they may eventually do it as an option

 

I think maybe in the re-design they might (I'm guessing 2011 or 2012). I doubt the second gen will ever see a factory V8.

The V8 Concept that was built for Sema is my ideal truck. Access cab with a short bed. I dream about this truck. I could care less about the V8. If I wanted a towing beast, I'd drive a Tundra.

 

speaking of V8...You know the billet Grill on the Green V8 tacoma in the picture...were can i find one? i think one of those would look sweet

Buy a Grillcraft grill and then buy a the TOYOTA emblem off ebay. Put the emblem on the grill and the grill on the truck and bingo.

 

Dad's been asking about the diesel Tundra since 2005, and it keeps getting pushed back. 2010 is the current "date", but who knows... I expect them to go more in the direction of fuel cells or hybrid due to their Prius successes.

They will have to do something in any regard, the government is mandating something like a 20% increase in MPG efficiency over the next 7 years according to tonight's news.

 

Agreed. Although I love the Taco, and don't want or have room for the Tundra, a V8 doesn't make sense.

Why, because for it's size and usage the the 6 is plenty. The V8 is appropriate for the bigger truck, with bigger everything to haul more stuff. Thus an 8 is appropriate.

So, I never forsee it in the Tacoma. Defeats is usage purpose for it's size.

As for diesel, I forsee only diesel in the Tundra because they want it to compete with its large American counterpart. Part of the big scheme to take a chunk out of the large hauler/commercial vehicle market in the US.

A small diesel for the Tacoma, to me, is only in the works when diesel prices come down and get lower than pump gas.

 

I would be looking the other direction and buying a four cyl.

 

I have to agree. Until the gas prices start to get lower, I think a good company such as Toyota will be smart about putting out a product that the consumer will not purchase due to the economy.

Offering the V8 or diesel engine in a Tacoma as an option could be the direction they may go, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't sell many of them.

 

As long as someone doesn't start going off the deep end in that direction and tell us all that Toyota is partnering up with Briggs & Stratton
