It's was built as an Offshore Supply Vessel, and we converted it into an anti-piracy security ship... Now, it's back to being an OSV in the gulf after leaving Africa

 

So it was basically like the flatbed truck of the marine world. Built to haul large, heavy equipment?

yup... that and all kinds of drilling supplies, including drilling mud... has massive storage tanks below deck that can be pumped to a drilling rig

bah, all too slow. worked on these guys (not physically on, but from an engineering standpoint), back in my days as a naval architect.

 

Nah. It was based in Galveston at the time. Ports of call were Progresso (Merida), Cozumel and Belize

Needed deck space for the anti-aircraft guns (to shoot at pirates), the fast RHIB launch davit, the helicopters and accommodation pods for the Marines. It was the HQ security vessel, so no need to be too fast (topped out at 12 knots) but it was maneuverable as fuck... the smaller security boat and the RHIBs ran intercept.

it's an all aluminum, high speed, semistealth ship. tad over 400 feet long. built to be "modular" in a sense, making it easy to swap out systems in the ship for various purposes. designed to be handled by a minimal crew if needed.

5 day. I'm going with a bunch of friends for Spring Break so I doubt we're gonna do many excursions. The only place I would consider it would be Progresso. The last time I was there it looked like a 3rd world country
