Why didn't toyota offer a 5 speed in the 1st gen prerunners? I had a 5 speed nissan before my tacoma, and while I love the taco, I miss my 5 speed! I seriously wish I had a manual. Better gas mileage, more power, better transmission life, hell of a lot more fun to drive. All I ask is why toyota, why? Anybody know why the overlook on their part?

Why does not Toyota offer a manual in 2nd gen DCLB? :deadhorse:

Maybe because they think it will be a family truck. And we know what happens when most women get behind a manual lol

I think there would have been a pretty big demand. There were lots of manuals in the first gen era. Most companies had the option, the 4x4 did, just not the prerunner.

I care lol. And if my tranny finally does go, I probably will. I guess you would find a 5 lug 3.4 manual tranny and swap it in? TBH though, if I'm going that route it's going to be a 4x4 conversion haha

only s runners came with a 3.4l manual as a 5 lug. You'll need an r151 tranny not the w59 or whatever 5 speed.

    or..

sell it and get a 4x4 in the first place.

no point in caring. They don't make em anymore, nothing is gonna change that.

Either change it to what you like, or get a different truck that you'll like better.

sadly there isnt a big demand. the shift towards auto has taken and you probably wont see many manuals anymore (as least here in the states)

2015 Colorado is auto only, manual only for the 4 cyl 2wd.

I'm guessing 3rd gen Tacoma will be same.

The new auto is I know. Older trucks autos were less dependable, had more mpg and power losses due to more moving parts, and you can't shift when you want, only when the computer says. From what I've seen the only reason the new autos get better mpg is because they have a taller final gear

I just don't get why they would offer it for the 4x4, but not the prerunner. Same truck without the 4wd, and a prerunner is supposed to be a sport inspired rally truck. Autos aren't that sporty haha

they made the prerunner for people who want the "look" of a 4x4.. people like this are usualy ignorant or just dont care about the actual capabilities of the truck.. these people almost never want a stick shift... it is a compromised vehichle for a poser crowd and toyota just said "F' em, if they want a real transmission then they can buy a real truck" lol
