Ez down install help

Was trying to install the ez down for my tailgate and I am having issues. The final step says to remove the bolt from the tailgate and place new piece on and re use bolt. Well I cannot get the bolt out. It is welded on and it is about stripped. Any one got ideas or had this problem I really need help.

 

I installed the same product last night. That bolt was TIGHT! I thought it was going to snap off right about the time it broke free. Although I did read somewhere on this forum that the later models people where unable to remove.

I will confirm the known defect with this kit, it does want to pinch the cable.

Maybe someone with a newer truck will chime in. Good luck!

 

Hmm so would you suggest returning the product?

 

I had the same problem. I ended up drilling out the bolt. The cable will pinch against the EZ down. I'm just careful when I close the tailgate. Not that big of a problem to me.

 

I wouldn't return it. It's a pretty nice product as far as doing what it is designed to do.

Got it on my 08. Great product for what it's intended for but got some gripe about it. Pinch cable, and it pushes the tailgate more to the passenger side, thus having a gap between the driver side tail lamps and the tail gate.

Would have been better if they use a thinner/smaller strut than the current one then it'll probably work a lot better.

I'm still trying to look for thinner support cable to avoid the pinching, but still no luck.

 

Any tips for this or how too's? I have never had to drill out a bolt so this is a bit new to me. Will I have to get a replacement bolt once I drill it out? Could one of the bolts I remove in previous steps work for this hole?

 

Had bolt drilled out and put on ez down. Shifted tailgate and made it hard to open. I removed everything and I am returning. Very unhappy, even had to remove the cable to get it to fit.
