2014 Rock Therapy - Official Thread

I was looking at KM2's but so damn expensive. And I have a ton of friends running the Toyos who love them, all 35's though. And another buddy just bought the Cooper 255's. Waiting on a review. He loves them on the road though. Much better than 285 in his opinion. You might as well go with 285 instead of 265 though.

 

I have found better prices for both online. But at the price of 255's I might as well get 35's.

 

It's not there are only 4 choices Irock, KM2, MTR, Bogger. and you cant run a big enough tire to get a bogger so that makes 3.. toss a coin twice.

 

You'll be fine with the 285s. Won't really notice much of a difference if any.

Why is everyone so afraid of 285s? It's what I have and I like them.

Right now I'm on 12.5 wide as well. Until my Iroks come in then I'll be 13.5

There is a big difference between the 285's and 255's when it comes to braking, and accelerating. Plus they are better for the type of terrain that I wheel in. But chicks dig 35's.

 

This is true, I tried 255's for a couple days cuz I got em at a good price. The wife hated them and said the truck looked like a transvestite in stiletto heels. She wanted 35's, who was I to argue.

 

I agree. I dont mind the look of the 255's but I definitely like the look of 35's. I just havent decided if thats enough for me to get them.

 

I like my 255's because I can tuck them into my wheel wells. I didn't have to take 2" out of the fenders and flares to clear them like you would for wider tires.

Although when I went to the SUA leaf pack the extra up travel kind of killed that for the rears. haha They are currently flareless. The flares could articulate them though.





I'm just going to go to fiber glass fenders when I go up a tire size. I'll have to ditch the bed anyway. My 33's are already all over it. 35's would probably break it...

 

I liked the 255's, tons of gains from the tall, skinny and light tire with very few drawbacks other than the "look" which I dont really care about. If I had 17" wheels I'd run the 285/75R17, thats a nice size tweener

 

I almsot thought about moving up to 17's for more options. I will probably not decide what I want until the last minute haha.

 

I think I may move to 16.5's and start buying used military tires from Trail Worthy Fab and a set of their beadlocked wheels. Username has been running them without problems and he has killed a lot of KM2's and a few MTR's as well I think.

 

Yeah I think I caught some of that discussion on the BS thread. He does some crazy shit to go through tires like that. I mean, I wheel pretty crazy to get where all my locked friends go and I have to hit stuff hard and have never gotten below the rubber layer on the KM2's.

 

I killed one of my KM2's and the other 3 are ticking time bombs with some gnarly side wall cuts... All from sharp rocks. I don't feel like most other tires would have put up with my abuse any better though, except a few I want to try. I want to get some MT/R's and see if the Kevlar holds up any better or some swampers, either TSL radials or maybe some Irok N/D's.
