I have a question about my tacoma alarm. Right now it had a honk like when I push the lock button it honks. I know how to disable that. This isn't another thread on that topic. My question is how do I get the "beep" instead of the honk. I think the 2008 and new have the simple quiet beep. Can I replace something like buy it from toyota or do you know of a aftermarket set up that is just the factory beep sound not the horn honk sound? I live in a apartment and I like the lock confirmation but the beep vs. honk would be much better. Thanks guys

It seems that I read somewhere on here that the beep uses a different and smaller horn. Maybe the newer years have the smaller horn in addition to the larger honking horn. :notsure: And the older second gens only have the larger honking horn. I could be wrong, but I really feel like I read something like that recently. I'll look around and see if I can find it.

Ya it would be nice if it was as simple as just replacing the alarm speaker. If you find any info please let me know

So from reading this thread it seems like prior to 2008 or 2009 Toyota used the regular horn to confirm a lock/unlock remote command. After 2008 or 2009 it seems they started including a little piezo buzzer for the chirp, rather than using the horn.

Pulling from what each person is saying in that thread and then looking to see what year their truck is, that appears to be the case.

all the trucks have the same horn lol

its the 09+ that have that beep...its a separate thing not affiliated with the horn actually

Yeah, like Jerez is saying, you can't switch out anything. The newer second gens have an additional part that is responsible for the quite beep. Older second gens like yours, and mine, don't have that part. I don't know if you could add it or not.

Maybe I can find an aftermarket set up that has just the simple beep. I don't like the chirp or the horn honk. I'd like it to sound as if it was stock.

not sure if it will work for yours or not, but I took mine to the dealer and the service writer guy got rid of my honk on lock/unlock in a matter of minutes right in the driveway. I was there all of 10 minutes.

I would like to still keep the audible alert that confirms my doors are locked. I would just prefer the much more quiet beep rather than the honk. I wonder if they could remove the speaker for the honk and replace with the one that beeps

Yeah, but you have a newer truck with separate horn specifically for the lock/unlock beep. OP has an older truck with only one horn that honks, not beeps.
