i just talked to a guy about hog hunting.

this guy drove a honda ridgeline. it was all rugged looking, and dirty. he was running all terrains from BFG. it got me thinking...i probably have half a million miles on that tire..2 jeeps, a chevy truck..all spanning 15 years.

is it that so many tires have eclipsed that brand? or does it suck? i dont recall any particular problems when i used that tire exclusively..

it doenst even register on my radar anymore..does that tire need better PR or what?

i heard on the radio the other day that early 90s music qualifies as old school. so if BFGs have been around since then...

    I'd say yes.
These days there are many more choice out there that perform better- quieter, smoother, more wear, better grip in varied terrain, etc etc.

That said.... looks like they are updating them soon.....

I have run BFG AT on everything. 94 F150, 93 Bronco (until I went to the KMs for bigger mud pits), 04 Exploder and was about to buy them for my Ranger (which had shitty Toyo MTR) when I traded it for my Taco. My Taco has some decent Hankook Dynapro AT M+S and they were awesome in the recent snow. However, I will be going back to the BFG AT KO when I buy new tires. They have upgraded and changed them throughout the years as technology has improved (rubber mix, tread patter, little things). I never had any issues and there is also a reason they have not had to change much. If it aint broke don't fix it.

They are claimed to be the most recognized tread pattern in the world.

They are old technology in the world of tires and better compounds, patterns, and siping are out there..... Look how long it took for them to release the KO. When it came out with their newest compound, it was already old and implemented on other tires for years. Bfg is riding their name for all its worth there and I'd never buy a set or even run a set that was given to me unless I was broke.

BFG ATs are old school tires but they are tough tires. I relate them to a proven design I mean would you go buy a car that was just put on the market.

I have had bfg at's for 40,000 miles. I have driven 'high clearance only' roads, '4x4 only' roads pulling an off-road tear drop, first tracks on 1 foot of wet heavy snow, to loaded down with firewood with and/or without a trailer also loaded with firewood. I must say, I am impressed that in those 40,000 miles I never got a flat. I will also say I have been stuck way more than I expected. The places I have gotten stuck are a few inches of (if that) of slick mud + ever so slight gradient + firewood. Its time for new tires and they will NOT be another set of BFG AT's.

I have those tires on a ZR2 Blazer and have always loved them.

I still think they are a great tire, but there are so many other tires to choose from these days. When this Blazer was new the replacement tire was a no-brainer.. BFG A/T's

There a decent a/t tire and get alot of miles out of them, but they are more expensive than most other brands.

I ran them in high school. I used to think they were the best out....until....I tried other tires. AS far as the BFG AT's go, I would list them at the bottom of the AT's on the market. Tough? Yes. Long lasting? Yes. Off Road traction? Sucks. Most all tires out there offer better traction, and drivability than the BFG's......and most are less expensive.

Not bad. I had them on my ZR2 truck as well. I did some dumb things with that truck. One flat I remember.

They are dated looking. Awesome replies guys.

Who cares how old they are. They kicked ass when I had them 16 years ago when the KO's came out, no doubt they still do. Great traction, quiet, tougher than an all terrain needs to be. I beat the hell out of those tires on and off road and neglected them the whole time (I was 17, don't judge me) and I still got close to 60k miles out of them.

I'm torn on what to put on my truck when the rugged fails wear out... I hate Goodyear, but I'm really leaning towards the duratracs. If I don't go with those it'll be the BFG AT's for sure.

So for those saying there are better tires, what are those?

Looking to buy a new set in the next year and interested in trying something different.

Any additional info on this? I like the look. If they were lighter weight than the current model I'd consider them over Duratracs when I move up to 35's.

the thing i didn't like about the BFG AT's is that they seem to wear funny and they dry rot more than most of the other tyres i've ever run. i've also had Goodyear Wrangler ATS, Nitto Terra Grappler, BFG Long Trail, and now Falken Wild Peak 2. someone mentioned those Rugged Terrains...UGH!!! GARBAGE!!!
