Squeek?

When I turn or drive slow my truck sqeeks. But when i press the brake it stops. Can it be the shocks or the brakes?

 

Could be dirt in your leaf springs....

How do you stop that? Mine does it a little.

 

Go to the carwash and spray high pressure water/soap inbetween the leafs.

Wait a couple days before determining if the squeeks are gone - the 'water' (wetness) will stop the squeeks immediately. It's after the water is dried - will you know for sure if the squeeks are gone.

If you wash your leafs and the squeeks are still there - then it's something else causing the squeek.

 

Yes go to a car wash with a pressure washer and put as much water as you can between the leafs..

If the squeak is still there after you have done the washing... put some light grease between the leafs

 

Be sure to use lithium grease in your leafs.

I think mine is the new AAL's. They didn't have rub pads at the ends. It's not bad at all. Yet.....

 

Mine didnt either..... They only squeak when I am done going off road

 

How are the brakes ? Are they good? With good pedal pressure on top? If they're getting down there (usually front brakes w/ disc ) Does it pull to the left or right noticably when you brake from say 35-40 mph ? & if it sqeeks when you turn I'll bet its a left hand turn isn't it ? It could be the anti rattle clips that also start to make contact with inner part of the rotor(non braking part) to let you know the pads are getting low before they (thin pads) actually make contact with rotor causing damage (that sickening sound & feel of grinding metal )

 

maybe its the brake pad wear sensor... usually theres a little metal piece that makes contact with the rotors when its time to change the pads.

check both front pads to see how much is left, but it sounds to me like you need new pads. its probably not suspension because you said it goes away when you step on the brake pedal.

 

But he said(OP) that the squeak goes away when he presses the brakes...

 

Exactly, sqweek goes away when brake is applied, now I'm pretty sure it IS a thinning of the pads, because they've worn down enough to create a gap between the pad surface (inboard pad is against the piston coming out of the caliper) & the rotor, plus the pressure from braking temporarily will stop a sqweek, but my moneys on a brake job soon

 

agreed. the sound goes away when the brake is applied because the pads then come in contact with the rotors.

 

What could it be if its not the leaf springs
