+1 I took my truck out there the first weekend that I owned it. I did see a real POS car in a remote canyon!

It was amazing - my problems: 0. I didn't know my truck yet. 1. It was only me and my 98 lb girlfriend 2. My gps wasn't working 3. Didn't have a good map 4. Thought I would run out of gas before I would find my way out (I didn't dare tell my girlfriend) 5. It was well over 100 degrees! - All the things that my survival instructor would have shot me for!

bottom line - If I survived that one, a stock truck should have no problem! :)

Awesome! Thank you guys for the advice. I hoped that was the case, my truck seems pretty capable; but I have never been out there so I wasn't sure how "hard" of a trail it was. Now that I've looked at the CA OHV website for Ocotillo I guess it's a huge area. I'm just hesitant to go rough on a new truck that I dropped my life's savings on. But it is a truck. And I don't want to baby it too much. If I can get that weekend off I'd love to come along. Perhaps even take you up on the open seat offer (thanks for that btw) if the group is heading to an area I'm not comfortable with.

Well, 0: I don't know my truck yet either, but I hope to sorta know it by November. 1: I sure as hell ain't bringing my girlfriend. 2: I'm SOL there too. 3: Looks like the map issue will be covered being in this group. 4: And I'm planning on getting at least one or two gas tanks and one or two water tanks. Need to research that and mounting them a bit.

Yea you'll be able to to make it out there. Like everyone else has mentioned seeing stock vehicles (cars) out there in the washes. Pretty much if you stick to the washes you will be fine. Nice and pretty flat. May run into some bumps here and there, but nothing your truck won't me able to handle.

It's good too cause you have the TRD OR, which means you have a locker, which also means ASS SAVER! Plus we will all be out there, so if you get stuck or anything one of us will be able to help you out. So just take your time out there and do the things you feel you are capable of doing.

As far as off road gear. If you plan on coming out (do you want to be added to the list and if so yes or maybe and would you be camping or day trip) you don't necessarily need to get it all at once. Save money here and there and buy it when your ready. Some of these things you can get at walmart or any automotive shop i.e. 5 gal gas can, mini air compressor, tire repair kit, tie downs, etc. For a good tow strap any off-road place should have a good one.

You don't really need a water tank. I have an 8 gal aquatainer (walmart) that i bring with me when camp out there. Comes in handy for cleaning up after riding. Might want to get some extra bed rings to help secure everything.

Well hopefully we see you out there. It will be fun!

Slick- Within the first few hours you will see what the truck is capable of doing and hopefully find out your limitations to it. I have no doubt you will be surprised at how well it does.

Sounds great. I normally work 6 days a week, so I'll have to see about my schedule. I'd love to come though so I think I can work that out. If you want to put me down as a maybe, and I'll update ASAP.

Yes the updates are times pushed the meet and go time up an hour so those who are coming from farther away don't have to leave super early and have to feel rushed, added a marked map of the trail given to me by Steve, and yes this thing is in Nov. You should come out rpparkster. I don't know if you have ever been out there, but there are definitely some nice sections for 4x4's.
