My co-worker who has a 2002 Tacoma received his letter in the mail yesterday. They are now including 2001-2004 Tacoma's with perforated rusted frames for 1.5 times the KBB Retail value. The states listed in his letter are CT, DE, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, VA, VT, WI, WV.

I've now attached a .pdf of his letter from Toyota.....see below in thread.

Update....my co-worker called two local Toyota dealerships and they said if the frame is perforated they are only replacing the frames (at a cost of $11,000) and not buying back at 1.5 times the Kelley Blue Book retail value. Page 2 of his letter it states that they would buy it back if materials/frames are not available. Since they are available, everyone is screwed now on the buy back.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Are you sure? I can't find any information to validate this.

I'm positive......he has the letter here with him at work, I've read it. It also states in the letter that if your frame is rusted bad but no perforations that they will keep your truck for about 2 days and treat the frame with something to keep it from getting worse. But, if it has perforations (holes), they will buy it back at 1.5 Kelly Blue Book Retail value just like they did with the 1995-2000 Tacoma's.

that they are. you dont get the buy back program, but rather a brand new, more rust-resistant frame. the dealership in south burlington, vermont has been replacing something like 4-6 frames a week on those tacomas.

Well it's possible that toyota is now buying back instead of replacing the frames now, which is what the OP is saying.

I remember seeing an invoice on a frame swap either on here or TTORA. It cost Toyota around 9k IIRC.

Yes, 9k is significantly cheaper than 1.5x KBB retail (around 12k less in my case) but it's possible that they'd just buy them back because of the hassle. Toyota is one of the few car manufactures that is doing "good" right now, so they have the money to throw around.

damnit, why would toyota ruin one of the best vehicles theyve ever made? (others in no particular order: pre '90 4runner, '85 mini truck, FJ40, 45, and 60 cruisers)

Down day and again I will post...My '02 re-frame is complete as is one of our other drivers ( his is an '00 )...

I posted this in the 1st "Rust thread" and have pix..if I can ever get them out of the camera:rolleyes:.....

    Hillbillynwv,
have your friend talk to his service director about "Everything",
Has the ball joint recall ever been done????( new lower CA's come with BJ), Price shocks through the dealer ( they are not included in the re-frame) and check the E-brake ( grey area on parts) .....I know i'm happy, truck rides new and that "pesky" rattle in the dash is gone....

    Good luck...

    Snoope back quiet

Anyone know if this 'recall' is happening in Canada as well, I know it did for pre 2000 Tacomas...

There's nothing new here ... The letter the OP posted is identical to the form letter Toyota circulated last winter when they first announced the program.
