The release mechanism on the lower itself was sub par and not the Magpul extension? I've heard good things about the AXTS lower, but haven't gotten to hold one yet. My buddy does have one of the Magpul releases on his Rock River lower. It feels a bit wobbly to me. I assumed it was just a function of having all that leverage.

Yeah, it was the release itself. I grabbed it at the lower and it had way too much movement for me, and binding when pressure applied to release it. The extension seemed good (not for gloved shooting though). I'd say with a better release (I think it was made too narrow and maybe had an edge that was dragging), and a Timney trigger job, it would be spot on. I liked it other than that. Then again the lower had a serial number that was below 50, so they probably have some done some improvements since that batch.
I think my next AR will have an AXTS lower, even if I have to modify/build it myself.

That's a bummer to hear. Hopefully its just because it was an early lower. Was the only issue on the lower the release? Have you looked into the Faxon uppers? That with an AXTS lower, assuming yours was just a lemon.

I really liked the lower. Fitment was awesome. The upper didn't feel loose at all, even with a tasco stock, it felt good in the hands. Some people don't like the finger grooves at the front of the mag well, but I like it. The finish on it was among the best I have seen. With the one I had, the release was the only "issue". Trigger job is something I don't personally see as an issue, a Timney kit is a common replacement.
Even if it was another early one, I'd get another in the future. Definitely check them out.
I haven't looked at those uppers. Right now, getting my car driving is more important than guns. Though I did see some nice bull barrel and pistol length upper assemblies. If they weren't $80, the Raptor charging handles are awesome.
Definitely shop around. Had one vendor try to talk me into buying a "beta" knockoff for $195 before I told him I am selling my real beta for $200. Always look for "Made in USA" not Korea.

    You got hosed man. :(
On the upside, the Mosin is gaining aftermarket support. I've been thinking of getting a few that are in good shape to mod like this- (plus, ammo is easier to find and almost as cheap as .22)

Naw, I was selling it for 900. Market for the TM1 just isn't there. Everyone wanted to look at it, but I kept getting crap offers. I ended on the up side with it.
Ended up telling one guy to Fuck Off after he kept offering $500. Told him to go buy an airsoft.

I will definitely modernize either the Mosin or the Mauser. The Mosin is #matching the Mauser isn't. Either way, I'm happy. Ended up with $750 cash and a pair of good shooters. Just need to sell my Beta so I can buy new window seals for my '40.

Well, as long as you are happy that's all that matters. Try gunbroker next time. It's a really great way to get true market value out of something. I've had good luck with them.

I checked before I put it up for sale. Current market, TM1 can be had for $1079 new. Talked with a dealer and gunsmith I know, that's how I came down to that price. Plus it helps that I didn't lose money on it.
But yeah, I'm happy with it all.

Does anyone know of a place that has gun powder? I have checked this side of the sound as far as Tacoma. It is for 223.

Cabela's in Yakima has been pretty good, but it's over priced. Click on "notify me when available" on this link, the 844 surplus powder is about as cheap as it gets for 223-

I stopped reloading for 5.56 a long time ago. It's cheaper to buy surplus, even at today's elevated prices. I've been working up some crazy loads for my magnum rifles using slow burning 50 BMG powder...because that seems to be plentiful for some reason.

Here, I'll let you guys in on my secret stash... http://www.gunbot.net/reloading/powder/

Where are you getting 5.56 for so cheap? I've been reloading it for a while but at the rate I go through it I'd rather just buy the stuff already made. I really only like to load hand gun rounds and those bigger rifle rounds that go through the bolt action rifles.

Personally, my price point is $350/1000 for brass cased. I have heard good things about the new wolf gold made in china, although I haven't tried it. http://www.surplusammo.com/bundle-s...-armscor-100-rounds-22-lr-40-gr-cci-mini-mag/

Right on. Thanks for the link. I often run in to problems with my reloads always cycling on the AR's so buying new stuff is probably something I'll be doing more of in the future.
