+ 1 on the pump/rack outcome. Actually I think all late model taco owners would be curious. a stalled rack happens way to easy w these trucks IMO

Well since all my lines are -6 AN lines it wouldn't be too hard for me to put a gauge in-line prior to removing the stock pump, so we can have an answer. I just don't really wanna spend the money to find an answer, but if I can source the components cheap enough I will. My new pump is here and waiting, hopefully I can get to it soon enough.

Finally got my rear spring swapped in so Eric can have his loaner back. Gonna swap my upper coilover springs out this week to, see if I can get the front end down like planned.

If you do find out, that be awesome, what other components do you need to test it?

Well looks like I can do it, but its going cost me some coin.

Fittings to adapt of a gauge into the system are around $15 plus shipping, and a gauge (0-3000 psi) is about the same.

I have plenty of other things to waste $30+ bucks on so I am probably going to pass for now.

How bad do you want to know the stock pressure, lol?

I don't necessarily want to know the stock pressure. I want to know if the stock rack can handle the 1450 psi. haha Though knowing the stock PSI would give us a little insight into that.

if you can blow teeth off of a stock rack at stock pressure, what good is a stronger pump going to be?

I want to say that Mike did that before he ever had long travel. Either way, it weems like the stock pump is not the weakest link on a factory setup.

Wouldn't the logical progression for order of upgrades be more like: rack > tie rods > pump? of course you'd ideally just do it all in one shot though.

I would tend to disagree. There were plenty of times I simply couldn't steer when against an object. The additional pressure would've helped. I broke my share of tie-rods, but never simply turning. The majority of the time it was when the obstacle presented a natural "pinch" /\ which forced the tires inward and the breakage.

Of course, nomods breaks more tie-rods than I did simply bc of basic column buckling. Same size column only longer, buckles at a lower force. But that bc he has the 3" over LT whereas I had the 2".

I feel the tie-rod should be the weak link as its the cheapest and easiest to replace. Hell, I could swap one in under 15 minutes at my prime, lol.

Basically I would increase the system pressure until the tierod breakages bc a nuisance, and be happy I have the most pressure and easiest turning I can in the rocks.

But that's all based on my feelings that right now theres quite a large factor of safety in the rack. I feel its strong enough.

Ideally, yeah design/build/replace the entire steering system, but aint nobody got time for that.

A manual rack attached to a double ended cylinder or a PS box with a pitman and a swingset would do the trick.

This is where I am at! I get out in the rocks and can crank on my steering wheel as hard as I can without getting it to turn. Nothing has broke doing that so far. If more pressure can help me turn better without blowing up the rack or killing tie-rods constantly then that would sure be handy!

Plus my pump is not putting up with my abuse. It squeals on me occassionally out in the dunes from fighting the sand on warm days so it seems the pump is my weak link at the moment...

Well stock pump should be off tomorrow so looks like it wont be happening since I won't get the fittings in time if I ordered them today.
