Sure...haven't tried it but you could grab a shackle with it.. probably the safest way.

    Outstanding! Added to the list.

The prototype for John is here on my bench. Been a bit cool so dry times are hours and as we have more cold weather on the way tonight I thought I'd get a head start.

They key to a good finish is prep, just like anything else. We grind these down pretty good so you shouldn't have to do any metal work, nice and smooth but with plenty of texture for primer. Main thing is cleanup, machine oils, shop dust, metal fragments...they get wiped down a bit but in reality leaving the machine oils on them stops any flash rust. It takes some good wax & grease remover and plenty of shop towels then a good air blasting after they are dry.

    IMG_20140208_164912_279_f71357030bcd7822d859b393659f8a9213b86643.jpg

I've used all kinds of paints and coatings but this Rustoleum Professional paint works well. I used the Bed Liner on my boy's custom wagon tub and really like it. It's tough but the texture isn't like Linex but dries hard where Rhino's cold application of polyurea is a bit more rubbery (they have hot versions too now), but for 7.95 at just about any auto store or even Home Depot it works well. The primer covers well and while I typically use more commercial grade paints for projects I have no complaints here.

    IMG_20140208_171515_961_7b0f32b4be94438895d58a77539a4d87880bf848.jpg

I always spray the winch tub and underside where the gussets are first, 2-3 coats of primer and 2-3 coats of paint. The bed liner covers very well and drys a satin black with very minor texturing, about like a 120 grit sand paper.

The pick below is wet primer, I'll try to grab some closeups of the bed liner tomorrow. Then I'll flip it over and prep/paint the visual part of the mount. May use the bed liner there too as John wants a satin finish.

    IMG_20140208_172556_628_fcb0142919417daaee5ab97c6eff5131beb558fb.jpg

This is by far the most time consuming part of the install as you don't want to start monkeying with it until it's very dry. 60 some odd pounds of steel getting man handled will typically produce some scuffs and what not. Nice thing about the bed liner is that it's easy to touch up and will help hide any trail scars.

    More to come.

I'll have some painted pics today. We are going to do the full install Wednesday as well so I'll have final photography that evening.

Here's a few pics of the coated bumper.

This gives you a pretty good idea of the Rustoleum bed liner texture I used for this. I like it so much I'm going to use it on my latest mount on my FJ. Covers gouges/scratches extremely well and provides a nice lightly textured satin finish.

Yes, I've been eyeballing that big ol piece of plastic, it screams winch mount. I'm a member over there but I won't do business with any AutoGuide sites for a laundry list of reasons. Nothing against the membership of course, simply the owners. So I won't be discussing it over there.

I need more R&D assets I can tell...

Give me a shout via my website with your info and we can talk more.

Dumb question.....if you currently have the Aluminum "Show skid plate" installed

Will this still bolt up or is the point moot trying to put that thing on in front of your new winch bumper?

Pretty sure this is to replace the skid plate and the lower plastic cross member piece.

That is correct. You will have a real skid plate now.

Oh... and forgot to post this but it weighs exactly 67 lbs.
