Ok, so I sold a guy (on another forum) a 100% working mint 6 month old 10" Sundown SD2-10 sub. I know for a fact that it was working when I pulled it. He gets it today and writes me saying that the sub is trash and it's completely "locked up". Also said that the negative terminal on one of the voice coils was broken off.

I have 100% feedback on Ebay (750+ transactions) and 100% on another car audio forum. I don't do business this way.

How do I know he didn't incorrectly hook the sub up when he received it or didn't run too much power to it??

He also said that I probably knew it was blown before I sold it to him (which is totally not the case).

Not really sure what to do at this point. I will work with him but not when hes accusing me of knowing something was wrong with the speaker before hand.

What would be a "fair" compromise to make??? Basically his word against mine at this point.

well.. most likely he failed when hooking it up, or put it in a sealed box when needed a ported or vise versus. Really, if it was a "used" item.. buy assumes all responsibility. Ask what type of box it is in, also EXACTLY how he wired it. Get that info, and check the manufacture specs. See what pans out. But really, I wouldnt give em back a dime..

Thanks snow. He's saying that he didn't even hook it up yet. It was blown out of the shipping box and a terminal was busted off.

Was the box damaged in shipping? Was the box insured?

Box wasn't in the best of shape when it arrived and no it wasn't insured so its possible it was broken during shipment. I have a couple of pics from him confirming and yes it's possible. Do you think I owe him a full refund?

A guy ordered something in good faith and paid for it expecting it to be delivered to him in the condition described to him by you. That didn't happen through no fault of his. He deserves his money back.

You shipped it and presumably packed it. You should have insured it, but that's water under the bridge. If you kept the shipping receipt, you should take it to the shipper and make a claim. Since it's not insured, about all you can expect from them is a refund of the shipping cost.

It's possible that the item can be repaired. Maybe you can work something out with the guy along those lines. He was excited to get something and he's disappointed. Stay calm and negotiate. Maybe you can work something out without taking too big a hit. If you have to give him a full refund, maybe you can get him to give you good feedback for being a straight dealer. When you're buying and selling, sometimes you just take it in the shorts. Good luck.

Great advice and you are right. However, the buyer accepts some responsibility taking a risk on shipment even if I package it well. The package does include $50 of insurance. I will start a claim and see what happens and like you said hopefully we can come to some sort of agreement. I'm definitely not out to get anybody.
