A decent snowblower is so worth it. Mines an 8 and it has done just fine. The nice thing about them is they prevent the snow from piling up song and at the end of the driveway since they throw it.

Even when the end is super cement like from the plow, I just take a spade and break it up, then let the blower take care of it.

x2, I inherited an old 12 hp blower. The thing spits and sputters when it idles but when it's working it runs awesome. I'll be very, very sad when this thing finally quits on me. It's about 16 - 17 years old already and running like a champ!

Mine is best case 20 yrs old, so on top of being 4HP it's probably getting tired. I can live with it not having as wide a path but even the light stuff gets thrown 5 feet tops. End up having to run over the same area several times as I clear it. If it threw 10 feet even it wouldn't happen. The worst is the damn chute clogs so easily it seems I spend just as much time clearing the chute as making any progress.

Mines old too, from the early 90s. Like Mikes mine sputters some at idle, but is a beast once warmed up. it has paid for itself many times over. Buy one at the end of the season, out wait till tax free weekend and get one during a sale then.

I use an 1978-1979 Bolens 826... It's almost as old as I am. Had to replace the axle last year, but otherwise that thing is hanging in there. Carb is a little messed up, gotta leave the choke open to keep it running even after its warmed up.

The old guy I got the axle from has a two-stroke garage at his house, and is knowledgeable. I might drop it off in the spring to have him go over it, make any tuning adjustments, etc. Then I'll put it up for the season.

Snowblowing is something I definitely don't miss. It seemed like no matter which direction I was going in, or where I pointed the chute, the wind was always blowing it back into my face. The girlfriend used to think it was hilarious that I would come in after an hour or two of snowblowing and be completely covered in snow from head to toe. I was less amused. That, and how long it took, were what led to my buying a tractor.

I put the hood up on my jacket and wear ski goggles. But yes, for some reason it always happens

I have a pretty short driveway so it's easy for me to just direct the chute away from the wind or, if the wind picks up, I just stop and wait for a second. It would not be as much fun on a longer, or more open driveway.

Yeah, I used to wear ski goggles, a wool hat and a scarf, and the snow still managed to find places to melt and run down my neck, haha.
Our driveway at the old house was about 60-70 feet long, but it was 20 feet wide. And I of course felt obligated to keep the entire thing cleared, plus the mailbox and the front path.
Took me about 4 hours shoveling, 1.5 hours with the blower, and 10 minutes with the tractor. No contest, haha! Plus, once he saw how fast it went to do my driveway my neighbor paid me $20 a storm to plow his driveway too.

    :brianr:

We had a series of open yards to the right, and the treeline was on the left of the house. The wind used whip down the road, hit that treeline, and swirl around in my driveway; never went the same direction for more than a couple of minutes.

I was planning on a high pinion Dana 60 front and rear, 4 link with 4" more width than stock. About $14,000 in just parts.

Now I'm leaning towards 3.5" TC LT. It's more than half the cost, has better road manners, and has all the articulation I need. Plus, then I can mob shit up!

I can afford that and the URD SC kit for less than the SAC would have cost.

    Yeah :( soon! Soon!
