Drive line question.

Long story short, I have the Tacoma drive line clunk. I have been researching how to fix it for around six months now. Im sure some people on this sight are sick of hearing about it. The most common cuase I have heared about is that due to some axle wrap the slip yoke/slip joint is sticking then releasing. The dealer says my 06 does not have a greasable slip joint. But before I can even get to that piont, Where is the slip joint? If it adjusts the drive line to where the suspention has the axle at it has to be aft of the carrier bearing right? I can not find anything in a parts break down or repair manual. Can anyone piont me in the right direction? And please no BS or sarcasim.

 

the slip yoke is the shaft that comes outta the rear diff and meets up with the drive shaft.....thats the part that sticks/slides when you stop or take off. an aal or a set of helper springs will help greatly with it.....or you can make/find some quarter inch spacers and drop the drive shaft at the carrier bearing and that may help a lil....but the aal or helper springs is probably the best bet.

 

I have an AAL. The Toytec 2'' one. Still have the clunk. Im planning on getting the OME Dakars and the CB drop kit and all. But I want to figure out how to re grease my slip yoke. The 06's do not have grease zerts. 09's do right? Or after the Dakars should I get a Tom Woods one peice? Will that cure the clunk?

 

although i dont have a toms woods one piece.....lots of folks have it and tyey say it takes the clunk right away. being a one piece shaft......im sure it does. and i think it'd be a great investment.

K. Im deployed right now. It will be a little over three months till I can do anything. But I think Im going to do some Dakar springs and the Tom woods all in one shot. Should be around $1200. Then if that works all I will have to do is get rid of my clunk in my steering and my truck will be perfect!
