Bicycles and some motorcycles fit a whole hell of a lot easier in a long bed. As has been said before, all depends on what your using it for.

On a side note, I was checking out the Toyota website and the other thread about what people are paying for 2014 models. I dont see on Toyota's website how it is possible to get a TRD Off Road package AND include navigation with Entune. It seems like it's one or the other. How are you guys getting both? My deals also only has Entune Plus with all their TRD models. TY.

Talk to your dealer. You can't actually order from the website anyway. The website is just to get an idea of what you want and it's not perfect. It has some glitches.

I have a dc lb trd sport 4x4 with rear tsb and pull a 22 foot checkmate that weighs in @ around 4000-4300 on the trailer. Pulled it from Columbus to Cumberland last year for the poker run and had to stop twice for fuel. Got 9 mpg. Pull the boat every weekend around here. Have never had an issue pulling boat up ramps wet or dry. If you think you're gonna pull 6000lbs every weekend flat pavement or not the tacoma will be for sale after the 4th week guaranteed. truck just does not have the power to pull it let alone stop it surge brakes or not that's a lot of weight being forced onto the rear axles and it will cause the truck to push the ass end around. I would seriously look @ a full size truck. You'll save money in the long run.

bottom line is find out which boat you're considering down the road. If it's above ~4k total weight you may want to go to a larger truck. getting near the max tow for any vehicle (unless you tow downhill both ways) will just not work well.

If you buy the truck first (SR5 is plenty if you don't wheel OR) it will determine what kind of boat you can buy later, regardless of what you want.

I haven't towed with the truck yet but I can say the stock SR5 with stock tires eats the snow up like none other. I'm not saying it doesn't slide; it sides when I tell it too... :D

I was able to get this. I didn't go through Toyota's website since I'm in GST territory and the GST website is even more useless than the Toyota one. Just called a dealership that had something similar and told them "this is similar to what I want, but I want this, this, and that in addition".

I've been told by another dealership that 2014 DC Off-Road 4x4 trucks can no longer be had with navigation (so I guess no Entune Premium Audio)...but I don't believe it and haven't been able to confirm it anywhere.

Whats the benefit then of the diff lock on the TRD Off Road? Is it worth the premium? This is what the TRD Off road has on the SR5:

    -off-road-tuned suspension with Bilstein shocks
    -electronically controlled locking rear differential
    -16-in. alloy wheels with P265/70R16 BFGoodrich® tires
-VSC+A-TRAC in place of standard VSC+TRAC with HAC and DAC
    -engine skid plate
    -front tow hook
    -115V/400W deck powerpoint
    -fog lights

All this costs $1,845 more than the standard SR5. Is it worth the cost?

If you offroad then the locker and ATRAC is nice. If not then its not worth it. Go sit in a TRD and a SR5 and see what seats you like better. The yellow billstein shocks are nothing to write home about.

Ive had both a base model prerunner and a TRD offroad. If I was to get another taco I would get a SR5 long bed 4x4. I dont need the locker, bed outlet, or "fancy" seats.

My '09 Sport and '13 Sport would breathe pretty hard towing my 2,900lb (probably 4,000lb loaded) pop-up camper.

If I was looking at towing anything over 4K, I'd be looking at a '14 GMC Sierra instead of a Taco.

Guys thanks for all the help. I'm probably going to go with a SR5. The off road extras would be nice, but I would not use them enough to justify the $1800. I hope this is the right choice. Now to hunt for a deal haha. Im in no rush at all so will hopefully find a goodie.

Maybe it's the year in which the truck is made, but my '06 is a TRD Off-Road DC with the SR5 Trim package. Says it on my dealer invoice and tailgate... Didn't think you had to choose one or the other. Come to think of it, my buddy's '05 4x4 also is a TRD Off Road with SR5. Says it on his tailgate too!

Oh and I forgot about the 16" allow wheels. The standard SR5 does not come with them. You need to upgraded SR5 which costs $400 more for these wheels. What does the standard package come with? Is this a big deal in terms of performance (i.e. 16" vs whatever is on the standard pacakge)? Im not so hung up on looks, but which do you guys prefer?
