I got my UG in the group buy last October and it worked fine for the first 8-10 weeks. Then it started consistently throwing 3 alarms: RPM, coolant temp, air intake temp. According to all available data (tach, temp guage, basic inspection of components) these alarms are bogus. After several conversations with the folks at Ultra Guage they seem unwilling to accept the possibility that my UG has a problem and blame it on my ECM. My question is: what is the likelyhood that this is the problem? It seems to me that if my ECM is flaking out I'd notice it across the board. I have a 96, 5vz-fe, 5 sp, all power, 203k. Thx guys.

Have you checked the thresholds on those alarms? I believe they are all adjustable.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
The wrong vehicle specs might be loaded. Unplug your UG (and consider unhooking your battery to reset your ECU) and try it agian. Make sure you go through all the setup steps.

I turned off the annoying audible alarms. It kept notifying me of pending codes that never materialized.

I have tried resetting. Not sure how the thresholds work? Doesn't make sense that it would read a 4500 RPM when in fact it's running at ~2200 RPM. Can u expand on this?

When the alarm goes off, what does it say the RPMs are? What are they actually?

If it's going off at ~2200 and saying that it's at ~2200, then go into the menus and set the threshold to the actual redline.

The RPM alarm is saying ~4500 when I'm actually running ~2200. Same with the air intake temp, I'd be running ~60 MPH in *20 and it wud say the air temp was overly warm. (can't remember the actual value offhand) When I get a second I'll take a look at the thresholds as was suggested and see what happens.

if it's showing wrong data, that's another thing. i thought maybe the alarms were set too low...sounds like you either have faulty unit, our your computer is sending faulty data.

I got mine the same GB as you and it has given me issues nobody seems to speak on or know how to fix. I programmed it accordingly etc..

I just unhooked it, eff it. I should call up Ultra Guage tho.

Well, I've sent several emails to Ultra Guage and they won't even consider the possibility that the UG has a glitch. They blame it on my ECM without any proof to back up the claim. Which is what upsets me. It seems like they'ed be willing to at least check their own product. What I'd like to know is how do I go about checking my ECM for glitches? Do I need to take in to the stealership? Can they even do that?

Does the rpm that the truck is running at match the UG ?

I have all the alarms turned off... don't like alarms

Have you removed the positive battery cable and restored the factory settings on the UG ?

Put the UG in another vehicle and see how the UG operates

RPM's do not match. I have reset, but didn't help. Haven't tried it in another vehicle.

I would say try it in another vehicle, or if you have a member with an UG nearby, try theirs in your vehicle. The only annoying alarms I have had was when my thresholds were set too low, as others have mentioned. The alarms were accurate readings though, if you are getting erroneous readings, something else is wrong.
Check your settings again to make sure you have the right vehicle selected, right engine size etc.
    Good luck!

Yeah I'm positive everything was loaded correctly. I'll give a try in the wife's car, see what happens. If that doesn't help I'll just let it sit unplugged for a few days. Maybe it needs a hard reset.

Verify that the UG OBD plug is inserted all the way.

If there's nothing wrong with it, especially if it's so new, they should be willing to swap you out with an identical one. That seems like a very logical (and customer service oriented) thing to do.
