My sister has a small car which has rear proximity sensors, and I really like the feature. Useful in her small driveway, with the stone wall next to it!

Anybody got into that here, or familiar with the decent aftermarket units out there?

I would see it being quite useful on the Taco (especially for the ones without the backing up camera, like mine).

EDIT: not to be confused with anti-theft proximity sensors!

Why not just install a backup camera?

No mud flaps, plasti dipped emblems, and rear bumper, Weather tech digital fit, Bed mat from tractor supply. Pioneer 4400BH head unit. B.A.M.F bed rail tie downs. AVS vent visors.
I don’t. don’t like them to much. i back up trailers to much, and like the idea of a camera better. I think some of them you can turn off completely. i feel like if i had them they would be turned off more than turned on. I want to add a camera.

but i think a few people have added aftermarket systems.

I have an aftermarket system that was installed shortly after I added a camper on my LB. Had a place install for not much more than the cost of the unit itself as you need to drill a hole (1" or bigger) into your bumper. I would have possibly run a camera but it would have meant that I buy a new head unit that had the display.

Our (former) '06 murano and (now) '13 CRV both have cameras. If I had to pick, I would have both. If I could just choose one, I would personally pick the sensors. Even backing out early this morning getting coffee in a parking lot, I thought that I could have still hit someone or something if dark, rainy, etc. with the sensors, yes, it only starts beeping about 3-4 ft away, but dark, rainy, whatever, it will still sense the object and beep..

To each's own, but I do like my sensors...

On a side note, (with the sensors) there is the disadvantage that if you have something in your hitch, or have your tailgate down, the sensors will go off when in reverse...

On another side note, some cars come with front sensors.. My wife needs those.. lol.

I can understand the "why not use a back up camera" argument... especially if you have one!
(still trying to figure out where the tailgate camera cabling ends in the cabin, on my non-camera base Access Cab, BTW. Follow the wiring with flashlight?)

Yet the progressive "blip-blip" mode of the sensor is quite useful.
It must be cheap enough, as it is found on many small econo cars sold in Europe, like my sister's. As poster above says, works great in dark situations.

It appears the sensor units are quite big indeed, and would not do a thing for towing, of course.
