Any dealership will have access to track one down in the exact color and configuration you want even if it's port. Though they would want to be the one to sell you the truck so they say they can get it or order it for you instead of letting you know which dealership has it on their lot. Back in 2009, there was only two trucks in my configuration that was in my state. Dealer I went to didn't have it but was able to get it from a dealership 2 hours away.

The Toyota dealer or any car dealer doesn't actually pays invoice for their vehicles!! First there is the holdback of 2-3% and the Toyota advertising fees and on top of that there are always factory to dealer incentives that you or I will never know about. Examples would be something like customer satisfaction scores above a certain percentage gets your dealership 80K for the quarter or sell so many Corollas this month and get 20K. This is the whole reason they make better deals at the ends of months because they would rather lose a few grand to get that huge incentive check from Toyota.

If you buy a truck at invoice they are probably still making 1K profit.

Also, another reason the dealer would not want to get you a truck from another dealer's lot is because usually the donor dealer still gets to keep the holdback which means less money for the selling dealer.

Yep, there's a bonus for selling volume. I know Crown Toyota will sell any vehicle on the lot for "invoice" or even below. Their fleet guy told me this in person.

    jfwalsh, just seeing this,

anyway I think the only way to get the elusive color you want is to somehow search the dealerships for one on the lot, get them near the end of the month, and then drive to it. If you special order, they'll screw you. If you can find one on the lot they will negotiate. good luck

    to imatacomaowner:

Yeah, played the game today, went to a dealership who said they had one being built right now, and would be on the lot by end of the month. Exactly to my specs. Surprise, surprise, when I arrived, turned out that the truck was a month out, and oh, yeah, was already sold. I then spent an hour with them looking for a truck in the cue of trucks to be built so that they could put in an order to modify one of the existing trucks being built. Estimate for that being ready, end of April.

However, there is a dealership 1100 miles away, with two on its lot, and I kept asking if we could ship one of those. They kept dodging the question, stating that the emissions systems on those are different as they are from out of state (not true), or that the dealer would not make them available.

I am actually considering driving 1100 miles to get what I want. unreal.

If the folks I visited with today are to be believed, spruce just doesnt get made, and really the only produced are the more popular colors, black, white, grey, and silver.

    This is bordering on absurd.

Try to get that dealership from far away to give you a quote. Maybe you can put a deposit on it then fly out and drive back. Though buying out of state, you would have to pay the sales tax in your state.

Is there a Toyota equivalent of Dave Smith Motors in Idaho (Dodge Ram dealer selling at/below invoice)?

I did. Their quote is competitive. I think I am going to purchase from them. Only thing I am nervous about now, is doing a proper break in period during a 1100 mile drive home.

I would find the 5 closest Toyota dealers, and call them all on the phone. Ask for their sales department, and just explain the situation and ask them if they can order a truck for you the way you want it or find it somewhere else. If not, then say ok have a nice day. You should find one or two willing to do the order, and then you can pit them against each other on price as someone else mentioned.

36K for an access cab is very high for PA, not sure about Cali. I got my double cab 4x4 TRD OR, with a few hundred in Toyota accessories, for 33k out the door after everything. Think it was around 31k before TTL.

Keep searching; if you look long enough you will find the truck you want and you'll be way happier that way.

Yea I didn't want black white grey or silver. Here is what I did. I wanted a Pytrite Mica SR5 DC, v6, 4x4. I priced it on True Car. I sent the price I received from True Car to 5 of the internet sales reps to 5 different dealers. I copied them all on the same email. I told them this is what I want, and this is the price I will buy it at, first guy to call me with the truck gets the deal. My phone rang in 15 min. I immediately went to the dealership gave them some cash, they had the truck transported in from about 200 miles away and I picked it up 2 days later. Price was $29,400 If that helps. Good Luck

Didn't read the entire thread, but it took a couple of months to get the pyrite that I wanted. I went through Internet sales and nobody had what I wanted, either Maybe it was easier for me since I'm in Texas so mine was made to order. Kinda neat because I kept getting status updates on the build and watched it get unloaded at the dealer. I love my truck.

the bottom line is all colors are not equally available, and they only want your money, not whats in your best interest or to help you out. If you find one on the lot, you can negotiate. They really, really, just want to convince you you want what they already have. If you really do go 1100 miles it will ad some cost of course, and time. I drove 350 and spent forever breaking it in, pulling off constantly, etc. 1100 would be gnarly. If you did negotiate for one that far away, you might see if delivery on a flatbed is cheaper than the hassle/drive. See if you can get them to split it with you? Remember the end of the month rolls around an they start sweating which we are nearing. Whatever you do, take your time, its a big expensive piece of plastic and metal its not the end of the world. Hopefully it all works out.

this thread makes me glad I got my truck and don't have to go through all this dealer bullshit. why does it have to be such a pain in the ass to drop $30,000+?

You can get a double cab in Pyrite mica with the sport package, entune and towing package for under 32k out the door in NC. use this as a bargaining tool if you can. It is where I got mine, and they have 6 in stock in your color. jimbarkleytoyota.com and I am not an employee, but get a $50 referral fee, like many dealers do

Under 31k at that dealer for the options you want - no pyrite mica in stock, but any dealer can intercept one being built

Depending on where it is and how much time you have, I'd take the scenic route.

Break-in tips straight from the manual (page 136)

    Breaking in your new Toyota
To extend the life of the vehicle, the following precautions are recommended to observe:
●For the first 200 miles (300 km): Avoid sudden stops.
●For the first 500 miles (800 km): Do not tow a trailer.
●For the first 1000 miles (1600 km): Do not drive at extremely high speeds.
    •Avoid sudden acceleration.
•Do not drive continuously in the low gears.
•Do not drive slowly with the manual transmission in a high gear.
•Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods
