been reading alot about the crappy springs on the tacomas, but all the info seems to be saying that the 2+1 springs only came on the TRD offroad. Well, just wanted to document that the 2+1 springs came on my sr5 dcsb 2013 as well.

Bought it for work, and am thinking I might be regretting it. I have about 450 lbs in the bed of the truck and immediately have 2/3 to 3/4 of an inch to the bump stops...IE, it bottoms out all the time. Please, if you have one of these trucks, please complain to toyota to get the TSB bumped up. I tried going to the dealer, and he said "ill have the regional tech come" Well, he came ,and read the dealers NOTES, and decided it was all ok so toyota is now saying "Theres nothign we can do" What pisses me off is that the Toyota Regional Tech NEVER NEVER saw my truck. They read the dealers comments and said "ok". That is NOT a second opinion, imo.

Nice truck, but this is piss poor service from toyota.

Get the tsb done for the driveline vibrations and request they order the "firm ride suspension" which will be the 4 leaf pack but account for about an inch of lift or about .75 degrees extra of pinion angle.... Just had them order all the parts for my truck.

OOH, I like this. Is the "firm ride suspension" truly an option that they give you? Or did you have to get creative? My dealer is givng me the crap run around right now pointing at toyota, while toyota points back at the dealer.
Can you send me the part numbers they gave you?
    Which TSB exactly did this

Just was reading the TSB...it seems to admit fully that there are TWO suspension options for tacomas...the firm ride suspension and standard suspension. Is this in itself an arguing point for getting the suspension fixed? Does anyone know the REAL determining factor for which trucks got standard suspension, and which trucks got the firm ride suspension?

All 6lug tacomas made before october 2013 that were NOT the sport got a 2 leaf + overload... all 6lug tacomas made after october 2013 got the 3 leaf+overload.

There is a tsb out that goes up to the 2011 tacoma for rear spring harsh ride... which essentially stated when the truck had weight in the rear it would ride on the bump stops... the fix... a 4 leaf pack.

As far as the driveline tsb... just tell them look... the ass end of my truck sags, you have the option to order the firm ride leafs.... order those instead and they shouldnt have an issue.

Didn't realize they stopped putting in the 2+1 leaf packs! I guess they got tired of the complaints.

My '06 has the 2+1leafs. I've loaded to the limit on numerous occasions, they are starting to sag, but they never hit the bump stops. Never the less I am going to replace them this summer. Could the early leafs be made of superior or thicker material?

Superior metal? A paper clip is superior metal.
I had the TSB done on the 2011. Much better.
The 2013 dosent count yet. The runaround is epic. Toyota (18003314331) Says "although you bought a TOYOTA, and have called TOYOTA, we cannot do anything that the dealer does not authorize"
The dealer says "springs are fine" although when I dropped the truck off, and picked it up, the truck was covered in 1 ft of snow ,and still had the snow when i picked it up (ie, the dealer didnt even bring the truck in to examine!!!)
Then, the dealer requested the regional tech , who came after I left the dealership. The RT read the Dealer notes, and said "ok ,sounds good" and then reported to Toyota that all is well. So, The Manufacturers eyes on the ground never had eyes on my truck, went by the dealers statement, and toyota accepted all of this as gospel.
Beware everyone, the dealer is in control even if they say they arent. Im pretty pissed off at this point.

Take it to another dealership and let them drag the RT over there too. Keep making him look at it till he gets sick of it and just tells someone to fix it. I'd bug the shit out of em.

Or, Buy a OME lift kit with the Dakars and never worry about it again. Then dump your stock shit beside the shed at home and remember them when you want some spare change to do a mod to the truck. :woot:

I can assure you Toyota will be looking at my cracked DTRL lens every time I'm over there. :D

ya, its kinda principle now. Im fully capable of putting airbags, timbrens, aal, or swapping springs, but i just dropped 27k on this truck, I dont want to pay any more for a truck that is supposed to carry 1300 lbs. Honestly, I DO NOT expect this truck to be a 3/4 ton truck, but 400 lbs...really....thats a joke.

I may make the RT come out to the first dealer and look...since he never looked at it in the first place. What a lazy sack. Then, maybe ill take it to the second dealer in town. Its 45 min there ,but man...3/4 of an inch to bumpstops is a joke.

Not 100% accurate. My 2012 SR5 came with the 3+1 leaf pack.

Well, where the crap really comes in is the dealer service manager says to my face "ya we know there is something wrong with these springs, but see, the TECH who actually worked on your car says the springs are within specs". I hate that term...within spec...

so my service report says "springs are within specs" so the RT says "oh look, the dealer says the springs are ok" even though the service manager says to my face, lets wait for a tsb...we'll call you when the TSB occurs. Its a perfect s***storm of incompetence from the dealer. The service manager basically threw up his hands and says without a TSB all they can do is put the exact same springs on which would leave me with the exact same problem. Im not sure if i should be mad at him. he offered to replace the springs, but honestly said they would just leave me in the same place i am in currently and hes probably right. A second set of 2+1 springs would not really be helpful.

Your sr5 dcsb should have come with 3 leafs and an overload. Someone on the line that day f'd up. Bring your truck in to a dealer with 500 lbs of junk in the bed and let them look at its sagging ass, then complain. The "firm ride" bogus bs pack really isn't that bad, Its on my 13 sr5 dcsb and i also attached attached some helper springs to them to help level things out with a load. Toyota really is screwing the pooch on this. It is a pickup after all.
