depending on the monitor, it may be as simple as grounding or not grounding (depends on the setup) a single wire that gives the monitor and camera seying it's in reverse, or some other gear.

Yep. I can't turn mine on because I haven't bothered to ground it, but my friend can turn his on with his. Not sure if he grounded it or if he deck will just let him do it.

    He has a Pioneer AVH1400DVD.

TASPPING INTO LINE UPFRONT FOR REVERSE POWER TO CAMERA AND TO RADIO SWITCH
THEN FROM ACC SPOT ON PANEL TO SWITCH TO LINE TO CAMERA AND RADIO...
    LOOKS GOOD TO ME....
ADD 2 RECTIFIER DIODS AND GOOD TO GO.....

does your radio activate it via a ground or power? in the diagram, you have it sending power when you go into reverse, but some are the other way around. i'd verify before you go through the trouble

well, in that case I know you like your diodes, but why not simplify it a little. it'll come on in reverse, or when you flip the switch.

The radio is not supplying the +
Its sensing the voltage change.so it will switch to camera mode automatically
So without a diode i would be back feeding power intothe wire i am tapping into
Which would be the reverse circuit to tail lamp assembly

Youz guyz and your fancy drawings

I just talked with him and he had to do some wiring to bypass the built in safety feature that blocks you from watching video while moving forward.

That's prob how mine will be set up. Power thru a switch, which will break off to in my case a monitor and the camera. Then have the monitor grounded. So all I have to do is flip the switch to complete the circuit or open the circuit to turn them both off.

from scotts description, you will need one more wire than i have drawn, as there will need to be power and signal from/ascociated with the radio. of course you could also skip the radio signal output, and tap into the shifter output. eith erway, one more wire than what i have is needed. whether you choose to go the diode and rectifier route, or just toy around and figure out another way is up to your personal prefference.

I'm not goin to go through a radio tho it I'll be going to just a screen. Does this make sense?

that'll work just fine, but you can simplify that even further. having a non radio, separate screen makes life easy.

I've had mine wired a couple of different ways now, and am very happy with the current setup. instead of going through your aux fuse box, use an add-a-fuse to the 1-ig or 2-ig fuses behind the change holder. if the camera gets power, it's on. the screen on the other hand (like a tv), has an on/off button directly one it, eliminating the need for an additional switch. and where it get's really convenient, is that with the right monitor (like the one I have), whatever position you cut power to it in, is the position it stays in. I have it "on", so as soon as I turn the key, it comes on, and then it goes off as soon as I turn the truck off. no need for me to turn it on manually every time I get in the truck. same with the camera.

and if I chose to turn it off for some reason, the button on the monitor will cut the power to the screen. the camera will still be on, but that won't hurt anything.
