hey guys, I have the opportunity to buy a colt 1911. it is a 1933 commercial model. It is for sale by a friend of mine (aka I will get to shoot it etc... before I buy it).

Anyways, if I get it it is going to get cerakoted (socom blue), beaver tail, extended safety, front and rear novak sights, new hammer (combat commander or skeletonized), new trigger, and then maybe other things like new barrel etc... later on.

now before someone jumps in and says "don't butcher that old colt!!!"

it has already been butchered, there was an attempt at a rust bluing and it ended up badly (very splotchy, a few small brown spots, etc...) I have also learned that in the course of polishing it to get ready for bluing he sanded on it, I don't know how much yet (some play between the slide and frame), and a few other things I am not certain of yet. I am hopefully gonna go see it tomorrow at which time I am gonna bring my micrometers and calipers and see what everything looks like dimensionally. The value has already been ruined with the reblue.

he is wanting 600 for it, I don't know if I will take it or not, but I am debating. he has some how come up with a set of original colt grips with medallions (haven't asked how yet lol)

    so what do yall think?

A quick google search shows that Colt had some big commercial contracts for foreign customers in the '30s and that a batch of '33 Colts seems to be floating around from an Argentine contract. If it's one of those, it's not worth $600 in that condition.

that is what I figured, it is a '33 model, they stamps are all very legible though. all markings were good except the pony (which has been re engraved and looks really good actually).

So for the longest time I've had this M1 carbine that I thought was just law enforcement surplus. My dad picked it up for like 50 bucks back in the 80s and I inherited it a while back. Got to looking at it more in detail and not only is it all matching sn but its also stamped on the barrel December 1942 general motors division. Any idea the value? Everything is in pretty good shape for the age.. def not a safe queen but not beat to hell either

I've been trying to figure prices out too

my grandfather got a M1 garand from a friend of his back in Vietnam, and he passed it down to me...its stamp says it was made by SFA in 1944

It's kinda beat but you can see it was used...somewhere

there's drag marks from someone low-crawl/dragging it, and marks on the stock where someone knocked the stripper clips to align the rounds before loading them
    pretty cool

Just use your facebook and link to that folks. If the mods get tired of these links being posted they'll delete them all from this thread and then your entry into the contest will be invalidated. Only you control your facebook posts. I'll be glad when 2/24 is here.

not understanding what the rant was about? its a little contest thing, didn't seem like a big deal, and there's tons of little vote for me or contest things all over the site. :notsure:

    Rant? That's a rant? lol

If everyone who's in this thread or was interested in winning free ammo posted this thread would be a mess. I'm just trying to keep it clean not to mention if a mod thinks it's self promotion and removes your posts (pretty common among forums for such posts actually) then you don't meet the criteria of the contest.... hence you posted for nothing because you can't win. I'm trying to not only help keep this thread clean of self promotion so the mods don't have to step in but help those who may not understand that just because you submitted a link to your post doesn't mean you submitted a permanent link as things can change with a forum. Post it on your Facebook and then you can link to it and then only YOU can delete your post so it's safe.

Some would see that post as helpful to everyone involved for various reasons. Others just want to argue on the internet.
