I searched around and couldnt find the answer I was looking for. My plan is to have 5100's installed all around, set at 2.5 in the front. I am also getting an extra leaf added by a custom leaf spring shop that makes them to fit your vehicle. This aal should add about 1.5 inch's as well I believe that the rear 5100's raise the truck an inch, so this will be roughly 2.5 in the rear as well. My question is, am I going to need a rear diff drop? how high can you lift the rear before requiring one?

the diff drop is for the front diff, ur rear diff is part of a solid axle. and u dont NEED it.

hmm ok I was wrong with what I was thinking I guess, so should I get the front diff drop then to take some of the angle of the cv axles and boots?

thats the idea behind it but so far it seems that most people on here dont think its really necessary plus it takes away from your ground clearance. i just put a 3" OME lift on and i bought the diff drop kit but havent put it on and im not sure if i ever will.

I had a front diff drop for about 2 weeks before I realized it was causing vibrations so I took it off.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
The reason behind the diff drop is to bring the CV angle back (closer) to stock from the lift. Some people have experienced the CV boots ripping form the angle. Although I am not certain if it is more of a first gen vs. second gen issue. I think that is the main reason behind it though.

5100's all 4 corners (front at 2.5"), rear tsb springs with 1.5" AAL, 265/70/17 General Grabber AT2's
I have what sounds like the exact same setup on its way to me as we speak. Dan at Wheelers mentioned the diff drop but did not stress it much. He did bring up uca's if I set the front to 2.5 (as I plan to do). He said the truck should align within spec but caster will be close. If the truck wanders at freeway speeds then uca's? Seems logical to me.

Yeah....You may not get back within factpry specs for caster and UCAs provide the extra angle to get there. You may or may not have issues with alignment/wandering or with vibrations from the diff angles.

I know this doesn't answer the original question....but shocks won't raise the back of your truck. Only an AAL that re-curves the springs or blocks will raise the back. The new shocks (5125 I believe) for the rear will help your ride and are longer so they won't get damaged at full suspension travel.
