I have seem the lining of hoses become separated and plug the hose under suction or perssure. Then reopen making it hard to spot when inspecting. This may be your problem due to the feed hose being sucked shut.

Well heres to exploring the unknown.

From my understanding the stock pump is a variable unit that applies more pressure at slow speeds and less at higher speeds and I have seen a range from 1200 psi - 1800 psi so this new PSC pump is rated at 1600 psi, I'll take the chance here.
I called PSC yesterday and explained my situation and they didn't see a problem with upgrading to their pump.

Yes. Someone is doing it! I really hope you can turn easier when stopped. Air down those meats and tell us how it goes with the new pump

It will be here monday, I will definitely keep this updated with my success/blown power steering rack. I am also going to add a steering fluid cooler inline to keep temps down. In theory, if this pump is constant at 1600 psi I will have an easier time turning my tires a slow speed, rather than the 1200psi psi at idle which ramps up to ~1800psi or so when you step on it.

Pressure in our systems should be higher at idle/slow speed, and lower at higher speed. That's to Keene need most assist when in a parking lot or slow speed turning, and less when we're going faster. I am staying tuned for results.. I'm glad you're having a go at this!

Getting new lines made up too yes?

How do you figure? If the pump is belt driven off the motor as the motor increases rpm the pump would as well, maybe I am missing something.

Either way the pump system is on the way, includes pump, reservoir, all lines and connections. The PSC pump strictly says do not use ATF fluid and to use power steering fluid so that is something else I will have to experiment with, putting "power steering" fluid into the system and through the rack instead of ATF Dex II-III

Works pretty damn well so far! Install went well, definitely not just a plug and play system though. After install I did a pretty hard test run yesterday and was cruzin 60-65mph through moguls and whoops with my hands barely gripping the wheel again, power steering is niiiiiiiice

    Yes sir!

I am due for another soon, the power assist is starting to drip fluid out of the rack. Pump still going strong.

My power assist sucks. Blew my rack some years ago and ran the pump without fluid for a period. I've since replaced pump and rack but have never regained nice solid/easy/no steering back/ type performance. What pump is this exactly and how hard was it?

What on earth is destroying the rack? They have tiny check valves that do not like trash from a self-destructed pump, for sure. I assume all the trash was either removed by flushing or you replaced all the lines? I've never heard of a 6 month life cycle for a rack of all things... Pain in the ass to pay for it, and a double pain in the ass to replace it.

Probably over-pressure. Need to find out the operating pressure for the rack, then install a pressure relief valve on the pressure line that'll dump the excess back to the reservoir.

2 years later and the PSC kit is still working flawlessly.
