i had a Grease Monkey (Mistake I Know) change my oils and they put 5w30 in for engine oil.For trans. they used 80w90 they also put that in my rear diff., transfer case, and front diff. is this right or do i need to change all this again? also is this the reason for tough shifting in the cold? I read my manual and all these are wrong so can it make it to next oil change or change immediately? Sorry this maybe stupid questions but i dont know too much about different oil viscosity's. and my truc is a 2008 base model 4x4 with 4 cylinder

I think you're fine. i'm not sure on the 4 cyl, but my 6 cyl takes 5w30 and 75w90 in the diffs and transfer case. at least thats what i put in it.

someone will chime in with the correct stuff. also you can look at you're owners manual and it will tell you exactly and how much to put in.

Toyota "mandates" 0W20 in the 4-cyl to eck out an extra 1 mpg in the EPA test cycle. 5W30 is perfectly fine.

There is a 2x-3x difference in cold viscosity between 75W90 and 80W90 gear oil. Not a problem for the T-case and diffs, but might explain the rough shifting with that grade of oil in the transmission.

    Ya... 5w30 is fine.
Just get back to 5w20 synthetic next oil change, and stay away from Grease Monkey.
Get Mobil-1 on sale at Costco with a $10 instant rebate for $26 every July... I hit up 3 or 4 Costcos and buy enough for both vehicles for the year.

Toyota OEM filter (The Grease Monkey filter is likely made by Fram, is it a black MicroGuard?) is under $5 if you buy a box of 10 from Camelback.

225k on my '94 before I traded it on my '03 Tundra and the only time it was serviced other than my driveway or Discount tire was when the exhaust manifold warped.

Tundra went 130k before I traded it without seeing the dealer (or other shop).
Wife's '04 Rav4 has 140k on it... hasn't been to the dealer since about 30k when an O2 sensor took a shit.

The tacoma will run off baby oil. These things are built to last.

As others said, 5W30 won't hurt the truck. The owner's manual for my '09 has a note that recommends 5W30 for heavy duty use (whatever that is). I have a good stock of 5W30, so that is what I have been using in mine. My gas mileage averages better than 25 mpg, so I'm not sure it is worthwhile changing to the lighter stuff for my use.

^In AZ, probably not. In northern states/Kanada, 0W oil can give easier cold starts and negate the need for a block heater down to a certain point.

If you want it done right, you have to do it yourself. I took mine into Walmart since I'm on the road. They got most things right, correct oil, correct filter, but they lost the nipple for the oil filter pan and the filter was on so tight it took me both hands to loosen it up to the correct tightness.

I did have a good time making those two grease monkeys look all over for the nipple. Of course, they had no idea what they did with it, just hopped around like monkeys looking for a grub in the bush.
