Watomi fogs on eBay

The kit says it comes with the lights, a relay, wiring and a switch. There are some posts here that indicate the lights are a match for the OEM ones and that the switch doesn't fit correctly without some fabrication.

My question is about the relay that comes with the kit and the connectors. Does it plug into the relay box? And do the connectors on the lights plug directly into the stock wiring harness?

I'm wanting an install that is clean and stock, I don't want to hack up the wiring on a brand new truck or run additional wires through the firewall. My truck has the wiring, but no relay. I'm just trying to figure out what I need to buy without spending extra money (I'm already adding window tint, Westin step bars, and a tow hitch). I just miss the extra lighting my Tundra fogs gave me, helps spot those deer out here in the country.

do you have a link to the lights your talking about?

more than likely they will not plug into your factory harness.
Its not hard to run two wires into the cab...

 

Below is a link to the Watomi kit. As I mentioned, there are other posts indicating that the lights are a direct OEM fit, I am just wondering if I need to buy an OEM relay and connectors to avoid any cutting or splicing into the original harness. You can't tell from the info or pictures.

I have plenty of wire and other materials from my restoration projects, and running the wires is not a problem (I can hack as good as anyone, LOL). But there's already wires run, and I don't want to hack into a harness on a truck that is a week old. And I don't want to pay Toyota prices if I don't have to!

I think by OEM fit they mean that the light housing will fit in the stock location.

if your unable to find something that will plug into the stock harness you could try tapping into it with one of these connectors

I've got the yellow version of those lights. I used the harness that came with it, but I modified it to work with the Toyota rocker switch...the $10 one, not the $50+ OE one. I didn't have to hack any of the factory wiring at all. I just cut off the parts of the harness I didn't need. I added one of those "add-a-fuse" fuse holders and installed it in an empty slot in the fuse box that's hot when the parking lamps are....so my fogs work with the parking lamps, low-beams and high-beams. They turn on and off with the head lamp switch or I can defeat them all together with the rocker switch. LMK if I can help ya out...with advice and/or pix.

Relay leads:

White (+) - Battery
Black (-) - ground
Red (+) - to lamps
Yellow (+) - relay signal

 

So from the responses, I am assuming that:

- The lights are a direct fit (snap right in just like stock)
- They have the proper connectors to plug directly into the stock wiring harness
- The relay provided with the kit is NOT the Toyota relay that will plug into the fuse/relay box
- The switch, as others have said, does not fit exactly.

So for a completely stock setup (which is what I am looking for), I'd need the Watomi kit, an OEM relay, and an OEM switch, correct?

The OEM switch is $40, relay is $20. Still not bad for a complete stock setup -- about the price of 1 stock light!

As I mentioned, I did not splice into any factory wiring. So you don't have to if you don't want to. Even with the $10 Toyota Rocker fog lamp switch, you'd never know that my setup is not OE....unless you were some sort of Tacoma junkie....but the average person? No way.

The stock wiring harness plug at the light is a standard headlight plug, so I can get a couple at the local auto parts store and splice them into the harness that comes with the lights if necessary.

I think I'll still pay the extra $30 for the OEM switch so it will plug directly in to the connector at the dash. I'm not afraid of splicing or soldering or running new wires, I just know that I don't have to, so I don't want to do that in this case.

If I put a bull bar on with a couple of lights, I'll run new wiring then (and use the cheaper rocker switch).

 

If you're talking about the plugs for the fog lamps, then the harness that comes with the lights already has them...no need to buy any.

In the '09 base there is an unused slot in the fuse panel that is "hot" when the parking lamps are on. I used this as my signal for the relay. I installed an Add-A-Fuse connection with a 5 amp fuse in the circuit and a 2.5 amp fuse for the signal wire. Doing it this way allows the fogs to operate with the parking lamps, low beams and high beams. They will shut off with the headlamp switch or can be defeated completely using the rocker switch.

Yeah....since you're pre-wired, I'd go that route as well. Being a base model, though, I had to start from scratch.

i already have fogs on my truck, can i just change out the housings to have yellow ones or will have to rewire everything to get things working?

i just installed these ebay fogs and the fitment is not exact to oem. there are gaps around the edges so the lights do not fit flush into the opening. i think i will have to shave some of the bumper so it fits more flush. another thing is that i had the hardest time aiming one of the lights, it took me forever to try and aim it correctly. maybe i didn't get a perfect one.

 

Strange....mine were perfect. In fact, the other day I tool a close look at a Taco at work with OE fogs and they were exactly the same....well, besides my yellow lenses. I only had to slightly adjust the left one to get them aimed.

 

pane jane which fogs did you end up going with and what was the total build price? I am sitting in your shoes right now when you were building this up, what did you buy and was it hard to install
?

 

there are little gaps around the edge that is kinda noticeable. the fogs line up with the holes but it doesn't sit flush in the holes. i had a hard time aiming the passenger side fog because it would aim super high when i adjusted the screw.
