I said before (several posts above) that Toyota is aware of this problem and working out a fix for it because the problem will likely return even with new replacement units. So you have to patiently wait for them to fix it. The other option is demand that they issue a recall and maybe issue some sort of refund for the problem. If someone who knows more about our legal options, please post and advice.

Well good luck with that. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting on toyota to make good on this radio thing. After all it will cost them a good bit of money to replace every radio in these trucks that is bad and they can and will stonewall on this as long as they can get away with it.

That's why I'm asking what are our legal options?

I'm guessing it wouldn't come out of Toyota's pocket it should be from Delphi's pocket, Toyota should go back to Panasonic after this experience.

Well, good luck with that because Delphi doesn't have anything in their pockets. They've been in bankruptcy since 2005 and just announced last week that they are finally exiting bankruptcy.

Great... I didn't realize Delphi was responsible for this POS. Suddenly it's all very clear. If my replacement radio goes bad (and it's already flaked out once), I'm going to try to get some kind of refund/allowance or service credit for it from the dealership and just buy an aftermarket radio. They're not tearing up my dash again to put another one of those crappy things in my truck.

I agree, I'm already saving up for a good radio, my replacement is working fine so far, but reading how even replacements have gone bad, I'm not keeping my hopes up. I don't want them tearing up my dash again either, they are a bunch of monkeys down there.

I got a survey to fill out from toyota yesterday regarding the problems and experience with the truck so far. I hammered 'em hard on the radio issues and the soft suspension. As well as the gas mileage on the standard trans trucks. Maybe they will start to pay attention to customers who reply with harsh critiques on these problems. Probably not.

Just had my radio replaced. Got in the truck and noticed my gearshift knob was rotated/twisted. Not sure how a tech could twist a knob during the short drive to the parking lot...

As far as the new radio, hasn't shut off on me yet, but it was so intermittent before that I fully expect it to.

Good luck. When you hand them the keys, tell them they WILL replace anything they scratch up while removing/replacing the radio. If they know you're paying attention, maybe then they'll be more careful.

So I am like many waiting to receive a replacement radio for my '09 Taco.

My radio mysteriously would turn off, get stuck between two channels or lately the digital display would disappear completely.

I have found if I push on the plate between the preset buttons and the band (FM / AM / SAT....) where it says "Toyota" I can reset or temporarily remedy the problem.

I have done this a few times and it seams to work.

Just one good push with your thumb.....

Well, after waiting for several weeks now for my replacement, my radio issues have worsened so I decided to to buy an aftermarket head unit. I was never even remotely satisfied with the sound quality of the stock POS anyway.

My only question if someone might know is this: If after I install the aftermarket myself (planning on it Thur, just got it from Crutchfield today) will Toyota still swap out my defective stock radio for the new one even though I'm no longer using the factory one? I would like a replacement for down the road when I sell/trade my truck off. And if no other reason....just simply so they have to pony up for for this monumental blunder!

not to many, love it the way it is
^ if you already are in line for a new one then they possibly might just hand you the new one and you hand them the old one without them installing it. kind of an odd situation and may not work, you should be able to buy a cheap stock unit later on here on the forum or elsewhere when you decide to sell/trade your truck.when they say they have the new unit I would certainly call the dealer before going in there

Dealership just ordered a new radio for me today. No ETA yet, but I'm expecting to wait awhile. If the replacement keeps doing it, then I'm just going to pony up for aftermarket.

Got my replacement radio installed since last saturday, supposedly the new "redesigned" one. So far so good, it's working like it should. I had the shut off and volume problems with the original unit. I did marked the original unit before I brought it in to make sure they replaced with a new one, and they did. I also asked them to be careful not to scratch the dash surfaces, and they didn't. We'll see if the new unit is actually fix or not in the next few weeks.

I have the same issue with my radio ,
it turns off by it self when it's left parked under the sun for awhile,
i took it to the dealership(Longo Toyota El Monte), and they advise me to
take a video clip of the event,(No video camera on my phone) no i'm not gonna go buy a video camera for this stupid manufacture defect,), Service advisor told me to bring in the car as much as i can
(2hr wait everytime i take my car in)
till they actualy see the problem, but for someodd reason, it never happens when i take my car into the dealership, i already called toyota and opened the case with them, what are my other options?

I had no idea this was such a widespread issue.

My radio had been acting up for a while but the dealership was pretty good about it and ordered a new radio for me 2 weeks ago.

The new radio is in as of last thursday but now that I know that replacement units are failing as well I wonder If I should just buy an aftermarket deck...
