holy land missile! Jato sure as hell just earned it's name. this thing absolutely hauls ass

Gotta tune the suspension, get some better tires, and maybe play with the gearing, but it's up and running. I'll post pictures of it tomorrow.

Normally for those conditions I'd run a proline rib type tire for the front. They won't be interchangeable with the rear though. If you want something that can work front and rear look at the proline M4 Holeshots. That's their super soft compound so they grip the best. If you you want a good balance of grip and longevity look at m3 proline compounds. All of their stadium truck tires are 2.8.

Thanks! gonna stop at the 2-3 local shops in the area before the track day on sunday and see if they have anything along those lines. don't need to be interchangable front to rear, so i'll see what they have as far as a ribbed goes. i believe one of the shops has the traxxas ribbed in stock. if i can't find the prolines, is that a decent substitute, or should i resort to online at that point? definitely interested in the M4 compound. this thing has a ton of power for such a small, light truck, so i'll need all of the grip i can get.

Parts list/modifications for a nitro to electric jato conversion:

    -E-Xaxx motor plate (modified) $10
-Jato single speed transmission conversion $10
-Helion Dominus SC battery tray $5
    -Velcro battery strap $4
-Helion Dominus SC 90* servo mounts $8
-Traxxas Slash waterproof receiver box $12
    -Frame reinforcements $6
-New spur and pinion gears $10
-Spectrum 2ch receiver for existing transmitter $30
    -Castle Creations Brushless motor/esc $120
-Misc. (deans plug, heat shrink, and other consumables) $5

    TOTAL:$220*

I already had a number of these parts laying around, so i paid more along the lines of the $150+ range. There's also the initial cost of the truck, but i got this one from my brother. Tossed $100 his way for it, since he hasn't used it in a few years.

So all in all, i'm in this thing just a hair over $250.
still going to buy some new tires and little things to get it where i want it, but $250 for a well running vehicle is better than i thought. especially since nothing RTR for $250 is going to be able to stay with this thing on the track.

looking forward to hitting the track. from the little test last night, is seems to essentially be a rustler with better weight distribution. you can actually steer under acceleration, instead of just doing wheelies.

are you not running a waterproof esc?

New wheels/tires are next along with a new motor...mine is starting to make a funny noise...probably from all the ridiculous mud and grime I've driven thru

I'm going cheap though and buying the stock set up of wheels/tires from the poison spyder plus another stock 20T motor

    I refuse to use ebay

Axial makes a 2.2 Trepador tire for the wraith and they're pretty much exclusive to tower hobbies

i have a Hpi Baja 5B. the first one that came out like 7-8 years ago. 1/5 scale. very easy to work on. put upgraded servos in it, 30.5cc race ported and polished.

just like this only with a pipe on it.

Had a great day at the track with the E-Jato.

while it obviously couldn't keep up with the 4x4 trucks/buggies, there wasn't a 2wd out there that kept up with it.

new body, wheels, and tires on it since the last pictures.

did do a little trackside modding though. wasn't happy with how far the stock slipper clutch sat from the gearbox. it caused the pinion gear to be on the very tip of the motor shaft, and I still couldn't get perfect alignment.

picked up a revo slipper kit from the shop that the track is attached to. as you'll notice in the pictures, the revo clutch plate (left), is recessed, relative to the jato clutch (right). had to dremel off the cooling fins to that is would clear the transmission, but after that, it fit on perfectly, and brought everything closer to the transmission.

off set gear mesh with jato clutch
    [IMG]

    clutches side by side
    [IMG]

with the fins ground off of the revo clutch
    [IMG]

revo clutch mounted. you can see how much it moved it inwards, allowing me to move the pinion in on the motor shaft.
