    Question for those of you that have done welding on links, what is the best way to weld the weld-o-lets to the DOM, fully inserted or sticking out some for more surface area?

    1.75 DOM, .25 wall, 7/8 x 3/4 heims.

    Type of weld pattern that an old timer field guy showed me back in the day. Went to Google it to show and it does not show me what he called a ' keyhole" weld. :confused: I used this method for my certs and passed with a single pass for up to 1/2" material.

    What he showed me follows a + symbol in technique. Starting the middle work the puddle left then right, then up, then down, then back left and repeat, slowly working your way around. No idea what the technique is actually called now. :(

    I would think you'd want to tack it in a few spots to keep the weld from pulling it out of round?

    So my welder finally crapped out. What do you all suggest as a replacement? It would be nice for it to have the option for TIG also as I would like to get into that, but primarily be for MIG. Any suggestions?

    Go with that three in one thermal arc setup.... seems to be the go to machine.
