So I never have people in the back of my truck so I decided to start a little project to utilize my back seats for better storage. I started small by removing the left side seat and building some shelves. I have been driving around with them in and it has been great to have that extra room to throw my extra bags for work. Now that I have decided I like it I plan on taking it back out and covering it in carpet so it will match the interior. The space between the back of the seat and the shelves will hold all of my medical equipment, a fire extinguisher, and probably a crash ax. This will give me access to all of that by either opening the back door or just letting the front seat fold forward. Just thought I would post this up as I build to see what people think. Any comments on how I can improve these shelves would be great. Also if anyone has ideas for the other side go ahead and throw them out. I am thinking maybe a slide out freezer/fridge but that may end up in the bed of the truck later down the road.

Cool idea. Always nice to have extra storage space. Is it secured to keep it from moving in case of an accident?

    Neat idea.

Only thing I wouldn't like is the flat top - the way it goes to the back of the seat. I'd worry about that if I was to get in a bad accident. I'd have it stop by the front of the box - not have the over hang.

Yes, it is interesting... and different.

I'd apply rubber skin to the horizontal shelves to keep stuff from sliding out/around, kind of like rubber roof material or something like that.

I was thinking the other day about what a guy could do to utilize a drawer box that would pull out of either door

I may take this into consideration. Don't want to get taken out by my shelves.

Cutting the top shelf back would also allow you to recline the front seats a bit

How hard would it be to take out both back seats, cut/remove all that plastic back there? I have a few long rifles that I would like to transport, without getting in the way

I like having the feature of folding the back seats down so If I have any big boxes or stuff that cant get wet in the bed? (I drive across the country)

That might be my idea for the right side. I just want to be able to utilize all of the space in the back.

Right now it is set up so if I pull the seat forward for anything, when I put it back against the shelves it goes back to my normal position. That was the reason it goes out that far. I always hate trying to get the seat back to my favorite position after I move it.

    Thanks

The seats just unbolt and the plastic bins are just held in with panel clips , I removed mine to modify them

Do you take your truck out to the beach often. It would be great to meet some people out that way with tacos. I already have my pass for fort fisher.

Found some rv boat carpet at lowes last night so I added it to the shelves. Looks a lot better now. It was my first time doing anything like this so it isn't perfect but it will do the job for now.

I always end up needing them for work. Seemed like a good place to put them that is easily accessible.
