So this just happen about a day ago. It's one of those first gen 46" LED's from Samsung that I got when it first came out. It's about 6 years old.

Turned it on, and lines of rainbow looking lines are on the screen. And it ain't going away even when it's warmth up. Is this something that can be fix or the TV is pretty much reach its life span? What's wrong with it?

Really love this TV, not really looking to throw cash on a new one.

    When the screen is black.

Try unplugging it for a minute, and plugging it back in. Once in a while my Samsungs do weird things, and this usually helps.

If this were a laptop computer I'd tell you that the controller card has gone out. Its might be fixable but on a 6 year old TV maybe not.

Make sure all cables are plugged in. I know on a computer screen if the cable is not plugged in completely the screen works fine just colors are off.

It could be the capacitors in one a the cards or power supply, I think Samsung had problems with them. I would let a shop just check it and price the repair, may not be worth it.

I have a similar issue with a Samsung 23 inch led computer screen syncmaster px2370 it does that occasionally full screen , part screen no matter if it is hooked up to the computer or not. I usually cycle it off and on a few times and it straightens it self out .

Unplugged main power cable, and waited for a couple minutes. No-go

For the controller card is it easily accessible for me to inspect?

    All plugs are plugged in.

I'll try and see if there's any electronic repair shops around.

Cycled it on and off. Still no go

Unless you know someone who can repair it cheap, might be time for a new TV...

I think it's too new for the Capacitors issue....I had that on my 46" and they fixed it 3 years past warranty! Samsung fan for life for that..

It should be easy to open the tv....and then see if any of the capacitors look swollen, or bulging...

I think it's more likely this...

This is why I have these velcro tension reducers to keep the HDMI cables from pulling on the connectors...

So there are all sorts of stuff out there but I made my own and found them much sturdier than anything in the store...

    1. Buy some sticky velcro, heavy duty tape stuff...
    2. Stick a vertical of the 'hard' barbs on a clean surface of the back of your tv..about 3 inches
    3. Figure out a soft, natural tension free bend for your cable when you tuck it behind the tv..you can buy 90 degree connectors as well if you want.
    4. Stick the soft velcro length wise, again about 3 inches and the wrap it with zip ties 1/2 inch from each end...in the spot that should be where the loop comfortably sits.

Now you can use the velcro to reduce the tension on the connector, especially when you have a tv on a swivel stand.

I have a samsung and one of the reviews was the HDMI connectors wear out so I use 90 connectors and/or custom tension reducers on all my HDMI cables...$5 solution saves a lot of headaches...

BTW...Ignore the dust, who cleans behind a TV...and that's my demon dog wally on his down throw...

I think a lot of things are going the 5 year or.....less....route. Amazing how cheap stuff is made these days.

if you're going to troubleshoot this problem, first we'd want to know:

    a) what "input" the problem on?...

    b) is the problem on all inputs (assuming you have a couple HDMI, perhaps a component input?) try all the inputs, ...could be one is bad...

    c) what is the source? cable box, antenna, etc?... hook up a different source, to eliminate that as the problem...

    ;)

...one of my LCD tvs is a ten-year old Sharp Aquos 37" (state of the art at the time...), ...it runs just fine, and has excellent video processor (excellent "picture")... be careful when you shop for brands/models, even the quality and type of components can vary within models from the same brand!

So I tried to recreate what was said on that thread. Tap on the HDMI port side to see if it goes away. No-go

I don't think the problem is specifically on any input. I tried it on different settings, Cable, Air, HDMI connection, PS4, and it still displayed the same picture.

No cable box, pretty much just a cable wire for the basic channels.
    1 HDMI connected.
    1 Optical cable for sound.

So it must internally. I actually don't plan on openly it up, don't wanna make things worse haha.

Gonna drop it off at a local electronic repair shop, and see what they say. If the repair cost is to high, then I might as well get a new TV.

But we'll see what they say. Keep you guys updated.

...hmm... my best guess would be either a problem w/ the power supply, or a sync problem of some sort...
